We just got back from Casa Grande and we loved it. Big Pine Key is quiet, but still within reach of the hustle and bustle of Key West. John and Kathleen are going to retire from the B&B business in July, so if you're gonna go you'd better hurry.
The hosts are very friendly and can furnish information about local history and hangouts. Ask John where the No Name Pub is ;) They are also willing to arrange charters for snorkeling/fishing.
The beach does get sea grass, but this is a problem everywhere in the keys because of all the reefs and wetlands. The dogs don't bark incessantly, and we didn't find it a problem.
The house was very clean and spacious. The back deck is screened in, so you don't have to worry about bugs while relaxing in the hot tub in the evenings. Little deer can be spotted in the front yard and on the beach occasionally. The breakfasts are excellent, combining creative fruit dishes with more traditional items.
Overall, it's just a quiet place to enjoy a good meal, relax in a hammock, and then explore the keys.
