The Polk History Center, which is the former Polk County Courthouse, is a beautiful old building from the early 1900's that has been carefully restored with great attention being paid to the original architectural details. Today it is a wonderful local museum containing permanent exhibits of the native american inhabitants of Polk Count with many artifacts and an excellent presentation of the development of this area over the last 150 years. There are often travelling exhibits from other museums, including the Smithsonian. The History Center sits on a block in the middle of Bartow's historic district, and there are excellent restaurants and shopping to complement your visit.
