We sat in the mall area and what a great place to people watch.

The service is very slow.

The food was fantastic! perfectly prepared.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

We ate here twice during a weekend stay at the St Regis across the street. The food was fantastic--the watermelon ceviche and Vegan Steven were my faves. We went for a late lunch and an early dinner, both times the restaurant graciously found room for our infant's stroller.

“Better than Nobu...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

Stephen Starr is amazing! We have dined in many of his restaurants in Philadelphia and New York and continue to be dazzled each time we experience one of his new ventures. Makoto is another and very special example of his genius. Its location in the Bal Harbour Shops is a bit out of the way (unless you go shopping before dinner!), but it is definitely a worthwhile destination. The decor is attractive, and the food and service were outstanding. Our waiter gave us wonderful recommendations. Every course, from the ramen, through the sushi dishes, to the mochi for dessert was wonderful, enhanced by the exceptional sake. The noise level allowed for conversation without shouting, a big contrast from our dining experiences at Nobu. Makoto is a special dining experience.

“Outstanding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

A recent night on the town included dinner at this restaurant and it was amazing! The staff, atmosphere, food selections, and experience were all outstanding. The staff was very attentive and helpful in making suggestions and personal recommendations. Our waitress was very patient as there were many options and we didn't know what to order at first. Makoto's atmosphere was very romantic and welcoming from the first moment we stepped into the restaurant. Our bill was a little pricey but that was expected from a quality restaurant like this...definitely worth every penny. I ordered the scallops and the taste and temperature were perfect. I would highly recommend this place for any night on the town whether with a group or friends or a romantic escape away with your significant other.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2014

The good: The receptionist; the rock shrimp app; the energetic environment and outdoor seating in the Bal Harbour Shops courtyard.

The not-so-good: Food was underwhelming and overpriced - from the too-salty ramen to the overpriced grilled cauliflower (four small stalks with no seasoning for $8?!) to the overcooked miso sea bass (too sweet, not enough savory for a fish dish). Server had a strange affect, not polished as I would have expected in this ritzy part of Miami.

Would try elsewhere before settling here.
