“VERY GOOD HOTEL IN GREAT LOCATION!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

Stayed at the Sea View Hotel for the first time in January 2014 for three nights. Have usually stayed in chain hotels in South Florida, but decided to give this independent hotel a try based on a recommendation. The Sea View Hotel was recently refurbished and could best be characterized as "old meets new." Was glad to see owners kept the best of the old while incorporating the best of the new. Location is ideal - close enough to South Beach, but far enough away to avoid the congestion and craziness. The beach is first rate and there are superb restaurants and shopping opportunities nearby. The location offers easy access to freeways and points north and south. I found the staff very helpful and courteous. It's not the St. Regis next door, but it's not trying to be, nor does it offer the St. Regis price tag. My experience at the Sea View Hotel does not mirror several of the earlier negative reivews on this site. Any question or concern I had was promptly and effectively addressed by the staff.

Room Tip: Hotel is located on the beach and offers unobstructed ocean views.

This is a lovely hotel in a superb location (we were there on Christmnas Eve and Bal Harbour is beatiful to behold). It has everything you would expect from a top class hotel in this location. Its just, well, tired. You can't name a single thing that should be there but isn't; its just worn out, needs a refurbish and a shot of Red Bull. No doubt about good value but if you are going to be in the area and can afford a bit more then it will be money well spent.

Room Tip: They have a huge parking lot 3 mnutes from the front door. You don't need to pay for valet! Ro...

My family had an apartment next door and I have had several opportunities to stay at the Seaview and St Regis 1 building south. This hotel has a nice 1950-1960's charm to it with modern in room fixtures. Staff and service are top notch. Book well in advance for the best rate. On many occasions I had a high floor ocean front room with breakfast for $150-$180 night. Much cheaper than the ultra modern St Regis.

I came to Bal Harbour for a conference at the St. Regis next door--and as a cost-saving measure, stayed at the Sea View. That was a big mistake. Especially compared to the St. Regis, the service was horrible--the concierge was outright rude to me. The breakfast was greasy and unsatisfying. You have to pay $12 to use the gym. The pool looked uninviting. Overall, the vibe was depressing and lonely. The only plus is the beach, but again you have to pay to use the beach chairs. The inside and outside desperately need updating. If you can afford it, I highly recommend staying at one of the many other beach side hotels in the area. Also note, there are few affordable eating options if you do not have a rental car.

We were booked into this hotel by our travel agency during our Florida-trip.

The hotel looks a bit rundown, especially compared to all the other buildings in the vicinity. It could do with some TLC on the outside. Inside it is the same story. The reception desk is small and looks dated. Lifts look old and too well maintained. There is a stupid rule that you cannot appear in the lobby with your swimsuit on and you have to take a special separate elevator… Felt a bit like a paria…

The rooms are spacious and the upholstery is nice but again maybe just a little outdated. The bathrooms are rather small compared to other hotels in the US. What really bothered us was the noise of the refrigerator and the AC. Actually not our AC but the one for cooling the hallway. It was build-in to a closet in our room (which we could not access) but from the outside we could see it… Anyway the noise was deafening… Luckily we both always sleep with earplugs so it was manageable but having to kick up the sound of the TV just to understand was a bit much. We mentioned this when we checked-out and the reception clerk pardoned our parkingfee (18$ x 2 a day) We were also scheduled to be back after 2 weeks at the end of our trip and he gave us an upgrade to a beachview room, which we ended up enjoying very much.

Poolarea was clean and looked inviting. Since I read the reviews from other guests about the fee, we stayed clear of the pool and went to the beach.

We didn’t have breakfast because frankly the restaurant didn’t look very appealing and there was a strange smell too. We went to the Starbucks 0.5miles down the street and that worked fine.

The hotel itself is situated in Bal Harbour, which is about a 30min drive from South Beach. It’s a nice neighborhood and you have Bal Harbour shopping mall just in front of the hotel which was great!

All in all this hotel has all the potential to become a little gem but it needs some upkeep and modernization.

Room Tip: Not room 417 (AC noise)

Location is great. Close enough to South Beach to go party without the late night noise of people coming back from the bars. It's right on the beach so you don't need to drive anywhere to go for a swim in the ocean. Or you can take a dip in the pool at night. Rooms where clean and the service was great. No microwave in the room but you can call operator to send one to your room if you need it. They are a bit picky with what you can have at the pool (no coolers) and what you can wear in the lobby (no swimwear). Instead they send you to the lower lobby to catch the elevator back to your room. When you check in they held $200 on my bank card but it was put back a couple days later. Also be prepared to pay $18 per day to park at the hotel which I thought should have been included in the price for staying at the hotel and was not mentioned on the booking website. It is an older hotel but still real nice. Service staff was great and were very kind and helped you in any way they could.

I like this hotel, it's been the 3rd time that I stay in Sea View Hotel at Bal Harbour and it's great.
Great service, after getting a small room where my son's crib didn't fit they gave us a free upgrade to a suite (with kitchinette), on our second reservation we got a free upgrade to a bay view room.
Gave us early check-in (not common in Miami).
Cheap parking (18 USD/day)

Cons: They charge you for the pool-beds,

Room Tip: Room #100 is really small.
