A Flat Bargain!
My wife and I had not been to our favorite Italian restaurant for several months, so last Saturday, decided to go to it not just to enjoy the food, but to also see if anything had changed. In short, the only change we noticed is that instead of having to pay the cashier, the waitresses now take your payment or credit card and enter it into a workstation. That's actually an improvement, because this place is so popular that there was often a line of people waiting to pay.
The good news is that the quality and quantity of food had not changed. The restaurant offers the usual, but very wide variety of Italian fare: Spaghetti, Eggplant Parmigiana, Antipasto, Ravioli, Gnocchi, etc. But they also offer American dishes, like Filet Mignon, Steak Au Poivre, Surf & Turf, Salmon, Clams, Shrimp, Scallops, and much more. A lot of restaurants say "there's something here for every palette", but most actually fall a tad short; Lotsa Pasta doesn't. BTW, they serve lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch.
Because they have always been primarily an Italian restaurant, that's what we typically get. What's amazing is that every Italian meal includes homemade soup, house salad, and bread and butter, all at bargain prices. My wife's Maryland crab soup, spaghetti and meatballs, and salad was $10.95. I had the Meatball Parmigiana – $ 11.95. Both of us had to get "doggie bags"; the portions are (as they have always been) extremely generous as well as being delicious.
Despite the restaurant being nearly full, the service was impeccable. Our waitress couldn't have weighed more than 100 lbs., and it was easy to see why. She was handling a large part of the main dining room herself, and moved like lightning. She was very attentive, asking if we wanted grated Parmesan cheese (which we did). It's nice to go to a place where you don't have to ask for anything because the wait staff anticipates you.
Atmosphere? Clean, pleasant, and comfortable. Not elegant, not beautiful. This is a family restaurant, and it looks like a family restaurant. You can check out the rooms on their Web site.
