“Poor Animals”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

Animals are kept in inhumane environments. I don't ever go to zoos but stumbled across it walking through the park and was horrified. I would write more but it makes me too sad to even think about this place.

“A Good- But Small- Local Zoo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2011

I've been to the Brandywine Zoo several times and have always enjoyed it. However, the zoo is very small. If I go and I have the time, I usually walk around twice. The price for entrance is very reasonable.

The zoo can be a little difficult to find and getting lost is very intimidating. If you go the wrong way, you can end up on the wrong side of Wilmington near Gander Hill Prison. Make sure you print out good directions.

The animals at the zoo seem to be well cared for. My favorite animals were the new tiger and the serval. They were pacing back and forth across the front of their cages as if to make sure the other wouldn't invade their territory. The list of their animals can be found at the zoo's website: http://www.brandywinezoo.org/animals.html .

The zoo would be a good place to bring a child. There is a small petting zoo where you may pet goats. There are several educational signs around every exhibit.

Overall, this zoo is a nice place to go for a quick weekend trip but it is not comparable to a big city zoo.

“Love this zoo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2011

This is a great little zoo to explore with young children. It's the perfect size! The zoo is very in touch with educating children about animals. There are usually employees with stands which have have examples the children can touch and a craft to make as well. There is also a petting zoo with adorable goats for the children to pet. On the outside of the zoo is the monkey house. The monkey house can be easily missed . It's not easily marked, but it is on the zoo's map. Outside the zoo, next to the parking lot, is the Brandywine River. This is a great place to have a picnic! You can bring a blanket or use a picnic table. On a hot day, kids can splash in the water fountain. If you drive up the N. Van Buren Blvd. past the monkey house, there is a cute park for the kids to play. In all, there is plenty to do at this zoo to keep the kids entertained.
