“They Fixed Our Flat Tire!”

New York City, New York

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Du Pont for a wedding last August. We drove down from New York and when we were a block away, we blew out a tire. Not being frequent drivers we had no idea what to do, so thank God for the Hotel Du Pont valets! A team of 6 or 7 of them pushed our rental car to the hotel and put the spare tire on for us in about 5 minutes. They were so helpful and sprang into action immediately. The next morning they directed us to the train station so we could pick up a new rental car. This positive experience set the tone for the rest of our stay.

In addition to the wonderful service, our room was huge and beautiful and SO CHEAP. We did get a special rate as we were with a wedding but it was only $125! We were shocked considering how nice the hotel is and how big our room was. As far as I know we just had a basic room, too. If I'm ever back in Willmington, I'm staying here, for sure.

“Disappointed”

Hotel du Pont

Feb 19, 2008

The hotel is beautiful and the rooms lovely, including large size and top notch linens and towels. However service and friendliness was spotty. Attention to detail was not acceptable. We had a package deal with tickets, parking, breakfast. They didn't have the tickets ready and had to double check on them for us. They charged us for the breakfast and parking. We found out when we checked our bill, and then had to have the charge removed. Worst of all, the quality of food in the famous Green Room for breakfast was poor. Excellent OJ and coffee but the food was of the level of a MacDonalds. Frozen, ready made hash browns, Wonder Bread type toast, overcooked omlette with processed cheese. Very disappointing. Also (not the hotel's fault) the hotel is located in a boring business district with not much in the way of interesting shops or cafes.

It is my job to book about 50 or more agents of our company for our annual Jnauary Kick Off Meeting. In the past we have done cruises to the Caribbean, millionaire mansions on the Millionaire Miracle Mile on the water in Fort Lauderdale, etc. We always want the meeting to be first class as a reward for all the hard work of our agents. Now, this may be an old hotel, but the staff from the Lobby to Sales to Housekeeping are there and ready for any problems that may arise.

Now of all the meetings, I got more compliments on this site from our agents than even the Arizona Biltmore by Frank lloyd Wright in Scottsdale! It's about the touches, the huge Presidential Suite that has hosted JFK, Katherine Hepburn and Reese Witherspoon, with its priceless objects' d'art , egyptian carpets (its' like the Du Ponts all donated priceless works from their homes to make it stand high above all else).

We had dinner in the Christina Room with the millions of dollars of pricelss Wyeths on every wall. Lunch was absolutley superb!
In particular I want to tip my hat to Lindsay of Sales for her going the extra mile for some of our more difficult tasks on her day off! She handled all quickly and without a hint of attitude.

“Hotel DuPont is first class all the way”

I stayed at the Hotel DuPont for a college friend's wedding. I was there one night and was immediately impressed and at ease when I pulled up. The location is about 6 straight blocks off of I-95 and so easy to get to. The valet was attentive and quick to help me with my bags and take care of my car. I was able to check in early to dress for the event and was offered any help I needed getting my belongings to my room since I was travelling by myself. The room was, in a word, impressive. The closet space was more than ample and I was so pleased to have a robe and slippers to slip into after a luxurious soak in the oversized bathtub. Later that night, I was delighted to see that my bed had been turned down and soft music had been turned on so I could get ready for bed in tranquility. The rooms have a seperate seating area which is a definite plus when you want to simply read in the middle of the day. Overall, I enjoyed every minute of this hotel and missed my husband so we could have enjoyed it together. Check out was also a breeze. Senator Obama was speaking across the street the next morning and the valet were able to give clear detour directions so I could get to the highway without problem. I can't wait to go back to the Hotel DuPont and will reccommend to anyone.

We had been to the Brandywine Valley area but had not stayed in WImington proper and booked a room at the Hotel DuPont. It has a very lovely lobby and a helpful, down to earth, staff. We stayed in a Queen room which was very nicely decorated and was very comfortable. The bathroom was nicely decorated as well--I loved the large bathroom sink. It was a nice hotel and we enjoyed our stay. I didn't feel as wowed as I had anticipated by this historic hotel, but it was a lovely place, and the room and service were great. We traveled there on what might have been the coldest day of the year and as we were there in the off season who got a very reasonable rate on the room.
