“Dewey Beach, DE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

My family and I just returned from a 3 day vacation at Dewey Beach, DE. We stayed in the Best Western Gold Leaf. It was a very nice basic hotel. (not comparable to the resorts we are used to in Myrtle Beach) We stayed in the room with three double beds. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were great. The hotel is clean and the rooms are tastefully decorated. There is a pool and tanning deck on the roof. The hotel is ocean block and within walking distance to many great restaurants and bars. The hotel staff was very friendly. Front desk staff friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We arrived earlier than check in to enjoy time on the beach and they allowed us to park in the hotel parking garage and called me on my cell when the room was ready. The continental breakfast offered a decent variety (including waffles) but the coffee was super strong!

Cons: Hallways are a little dirty and not as nicely maintained as the rooms. Wish the rooms had balconies. Dewey Beach is a party beach for "20 somethings" on the weekends and the proximity to the bar scene makes it a little loud in the middle of the night.

Overall good experience for a 3 day trip.

Stayed here with my family during a business convention at Dewey Beach. Things have not changed since my stay in June 2011. That is to say, it is still a spartan motel offering good value due to its proximity to the beach, the bay, and Dewey's nightlife. One downside was that the pool area was completely taken over on Saturday by a group of visiting motorcyclists who were rather rowdy, so a family trip to the pool was out of the question. But the rooms were comfortable and surprisingly quiet, the breakfast was good nd the coffee strong, so I cannot say it was a bad experience. And the closeness of the beach can't be beat.

Room Tip: Get a room facing away from the party traffic on Highway One if you want to be ensured a quiet sleep...

Location is about all this hotel has going for it. Our family of four stayed 2 nights at this hotel. It is not a resort by any stretch of the imagination. It was about 1/2 block walk to the beach which was very convenient. We had a bayside room on the 4th floor - it did have a nice view of the bay and was nice at sunset. The rooms seem to have had a cosmetic update - with updated bedding and paint - but it all seemed very shabby and not that clean. The carpet especially seemed dirty. The bathroom shower is a strange walk in shower that seemed to leak water all over the floor regardless of how hard you tried to keep the curtain in. The lobby is very small and the hallways and common areas seem rundown and untidy. The rooftop pool is spacious, but seemed a bit dirty and not well tended. You cannot see the ocean from the rooftop pool area. The workout room was large and had decent equipment. The breakfast room seemed very dated and shabby. The breakfast was okay, they actually had pretty great coffee -- they grind the beans right there so that was a plus. Overall, this was not a good value. We had initially booked at $217/night - a week before we left I rebooked it at $206 (these are AAA prices). When we got to the hotel they were telling prospective guests that the rate was $199 but we could not get that rate. This seemed like a lot to pay for this property- I realize that something close to the beach is going to be inflated, but this hotel just did not live up to our expectations.

We stayed here over the 2012 4th of July. Office staff was very friendly.

Pros- Short walk to the beach..... That's about it.

Cons- Air conditioning never seemed to cool the room off. Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Roof top pool was dirty! Pool area also had a shower to get sand off that hadn't been cleared of sand in awhile. The drain was disgusting! Cigarette butts were floating in the pool.

So.... We will not return. There are plenty of other chain hotels that typically off better pools. If parking is your concern, buy a permit at the Rehobeth office kiosk and park at any of the side locations.

Pros:
-just one block from Dewey Beach
-restaurants within walking distance
-room was fairly spacious and clean with a fridge
-breakfast included (not terribly impressive)
-outdoor pool (small though)
-nice french doors
-friendly staff
-great price

Cons:
-Our bed and pillows were so uncomfortable. I don't usually stay in lower end hotels/motels so maybe my opinion shouldn't count. But it took a long time to fall asleep and our necks/shoulders were sore the next morning.
-Our room was described as having "french doors w/balcony" but there was no actual balcony. I was expecting a small space outside with a couple chairs, but the french doors just opened up to a railing.
-There were a few strands of hair on the bathroom floor when we checked in.
-Walls are really thin. We could hear our neighbors' conversations clearly.

Overall - we booked at the last minute and did not have a wide variety of choices. We might stay here again if we find ourselves in that situation again, but will otherwise look elsewhere.

We were pleasantly surprised with the nice accommodations so close to the beach. We spent 2 nights here. There were numerous amenities including free garage parking, free internet, free breakfast, microwave and refrig., roof top pool and exercise room. The staff was helpful and friendly. The bed was comfortable and the room clean and spacious.
We requested a room change to a location not near the ice dispenser which was quite noisy in the hall. They were very accommodating.
Dewey Beach is very nice but not a beach for shell collectors. The hotel's location is great for walking around Dewey and short drives to shops and nice restaurants.
We would choose to make a return trip at this hotel.

Stayed last June for our Dewey Beach vacation but just became a tripadvisor member. So better late than never, right? :)

This was a great place to stay. It is budget but apparently was renovated only a couple of years ago. The rooms were modern and VERY clean. The cleaning staff was ever present and even asked me what was the best time to go through the room. Nothing was missed. Full bathroom cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, etc. Was very happy.

The second night I had some noisy neighbors. Teens having an overnight at the beach I suppose. But with a call to the desk it was quickly handled and I could sleep.

Breakfast was pretty great for budget lodging. Cereal, toast, eggs, make your own waffles, nice selection of fruit, muffins, and pastries. You could choose coffee, juice, or milk. Tea drinkers are left out here. Wasn't an issue for me...I have to have my coffee!!

Staff and supplies: If I ever needed anything all I had to do was ask. I wasn't charged for extra towels, laundry soap, and other misc. items. The usual fridge in room, ice machine in hall, and vending machines throughout were a great convenience.

There are a few restuarants in the area and Rehobeth shopping and boardwal are only a ten minute trolly ride away. Hotel itself is a stones throw from the beach...loved that.

I would definately stay again!

Room Tip: I stayed on the 4th floor. Made things easy as the breakfast room, pool, and exercise room are all...
