“Ok.... but nothing to write home about.”
I went with two other people on a Tuesday night. They had a three course menu for twenty dollars with a decent selection. The first course offered salads or soup, the second a variety of entrees, and the third their full desert menu. All three of us went the three course menu route.
I ordered a house salad, fish and chips, and finished it off with a blackberry and apple crumble. The salad was fresh with a good selection of vegetables. The fish and chips entree was the most disappointing. While it was a massive portion, the fish and chips were very bland. As another reviewer noted, I had never experienced the shape and texture of the fried fish. They were very long and skinny. Overall, they did not taste bad but rather just tasted "fried." One of the other guests accompanying me ordered the tuna entree medium rare. He described it as dry except for the very center. This could be in part because he did not order it rare and I did not sample it to comment. All three of us were very satisfied with our deserts.
The main things that stuck with me after eating at Stoney Lonen, were the massive portions and the bland fish and chips. I will note that the service was good, with the waitress being both attentive and polite. I enjoyed the Harp and Smithwicks on tap, both of which were fresh. For the amount of food it was very reasonably priced and the atmosphere was enjoyable. I would definitely go back for the same three course special but try a different entree.
