Just got back from a fantastic weekend celebrating my 30th birthday at Rehoboth, and Matt and Jerry helped make the weekend really special. My husband booked at Lighthouse Inn after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. You can't beat the location - it's one block from the beach! We ran into terrible Friday night traffic driving from DC, so it was wonderful to be able to park the car and walk everywhere we needed to for the weekend.
Matt and Jerry have thought of everything you might need and more! They have beach towels, chairs, and umbrellas, which we borrowed both days we went to the beach. While we had to check out at 11am, we were able to keep the car parked at the house (though there are meters right outside if folks are checking in) and use their recently renovated outdoor shower to clean up before the drive home. They even left us fresh towels in the outdoor shower (which has shampoo and soap).
The breakfasts were great - continental style on Saturday with lots of fresh fruit, mini bagels with cream cheese and homemade jams, delicious coffee, orange juice, and mini muffins. Jerry made us "red, white, and blue" french toast the next day - french toast with strawberries, blueberries, coconut, and a tropical syrup. Delicious! They had cold bottled water available for a dollar each, saving us the hassle of running to the store before going to the beach. They sent my husband several recommendations for nearby restaurants ahead of time. We ended up at Henlopen City Oyster House for a delicious seafood dinner and a wide variety of beers and drinks. I can't stress enough what a convenient location this is - we walked to dinner and there were several options for drinks afterward. It's also fun to walk along the boardwalk, and we stopped by Funland, which is like a mini carnival with a few rides and games that make you feel like a kid again.
I love staying at B&Bs because it has a more personal, homey feel, and Lighthouse Inn certainly met this expectation. While the shower in our room could use a minor update, the room and house in general were very clean. It is obvious that Matt and Jerry put a lot into keeping the house up and providing a welcoming, comfortable experience for their guests.
I usually stay at B&Bs when traveling, including abroad, and Matt and Jerry win first prize for the considerate details that made this such a memorable weekend. A Happy Birthday sign greeted us in the room, and at breakfast, Matt and Jerry brought out a muffin with a candle in it, singing Happy Birthday, holding a sign with my name on it, and blowing noisemakers. They had happy hour on Saturday night, and we shared a drink and light hors d'oeuvres with them and the other guests before heading to dinner. When we returned from dinner, we found a nightcap and chocolates waiting on a silver tray in our room. Then before we checked out, they left a thank you postcard and magnet as a memento on our bed.
While I have found some lodging places "meh" (even after reading decent reviews on Trip Advisor), I would not hesitate at all in recommending Lighthouse B&B to friends and family. In fact, I'd say "Book now!" because it only has a handful of rooms and you don't want to miss out on this lovely, relaxing experience!
