“Why stay anywhere else in Rehoboth Beach?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2009

My husband and I really enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Inn. We checked in late on a Saturday night after a long drive and definitely appreciated the warm greeting and friendly atmosphere of the hotel. We booked late in the season, when only a jacuzzi room was available so ended up paying more per night than I would have liked, but it was a nice room. Comfy bed, clean bathroom stocked with toiletries and plenty of towels. We were out most of the day and always came back to a spotless room. Thank you to whoever posted that they will give you $5 off per person at Sammy's Restaurant across the street. Ask at the desk - breakfast was great! I think everything good about the hotel has already been stated in previous reviews.....so I'll try to keep it short. The Avenue Inn is so in the heart of everything going on in Rehoboth beach, so clean and so reasonably priced - I really couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. I was a little sad when I booked a hotel without an ocean view, but ultimately happy that I did. I think my husband nailed it on the head when he said he thinks the big boardwalk hotels get booked because of location and don't necessarily try as hard to please their guests. Plus, rooms on the beach were double the cost per night and in the peak season, prices are through the roof! The Avenue Inn really is just a block from the boardwalk and in the middle off all the action, while still maintaining it's charm and creating a peaceful haven in the very busy little town in the summer. We enjoyed our stay and have been telling our friends! Thank You!

The Avenue Inn is in a great location. The amenities: free breakfast in the morning, free Wi-Fi, free cookies, and free use of their beach chairs. "Jim" checked us in (older and had glasses) was a bit condescending towards us. We all have bad days, but leave it where it started! A young woman at the front desk was also present but smiled at us. We arrived in the room which was average - the comforters were dated, the towels were very rough, the room had a slightly musty smell like a closet with moth ball resin, and there were 3 flies which my husband killed 2 of the 3. We left right away and returned at 7pm back from the beach. I think that the wine/cheese&crackers reception in the lobby is a nice touch, but as soon as I finished pouring myself a small plastic cup of wine, the tray that the rest of the wine was on was taken away immediately. We also had massages at the spa connected to the hotel. After my massage, I asked if I could just rinse off in one of the showers there and my masseuse asked if I was getting another service. When I told her "no, but we just spent $300 here," she said, "oh no, just get dressed". We are young professionals, very friendly, and interact with so many different people due to our professions. We travel about 7 times a year and each time we checked out from our place of stay- major chain, boutique, or small and privately owned, we're told, "come and visit us again" or they ask "how was your stay". Instead we received, "you're all checked out" which was followed immediately by the general manager squelching on his walkie-talkie telling the cleaning lady that room XXX checked out. We didn't get the warm and fuzzies while staying here except from some breakfast and cleaning staff and possibly 1 of the front desk personnel. We understand high prices for the summer season, but we didn't get nearly as much of the service we expected for the price ($225++/nt). It missed a personalized touch.

We stayed at the Avenue Inn 2 for our first family vacation. The location was perfect. We parked the car and we were able to walk almost everywhere. The room was large enough for 6 of us to fit very comfortably, and there were 4 kids! The wine and cheese and crackers in the early evening were such a nice added touch! The kids loved the cookies in the evening. Staff was friendly and very helpful. We will surely be back again. I would highly reommend this place to everyone!

We stayed at the Avenue Inn this past weekend with family. The place is very nice; Ioved the rocking chairs and flowers on each balcony. We skipped the free b'fst at first, but on our 2nd day we took advantage of it. Overall it was good - cereal, egg casseroles, bagels, pastries, yogurt, etc. At 5 PM they have wine and cheese, and later in the evening choc. chip cookies. Both nice touches. The only issue my husband's family had was a lack of parking on Sat night when they returned. They had to park at Avenue II down the street. Not a big deal but they should have enough parking for all guests to park on site. We did notice someone parked in the underground parking without a permit, and were glad to see they were at least served with a warning about moving their car. A previous poster commented on small parking spaces, but we thought they were plenty big (at the main location) and we have a fairly large SUV. Glad we did not bring the smaller car just because of that. We did overhear one staff member making a negative comment about something, which I don't think is appropriate in front of guests. Loved the Bath & Body Works toiletries, too.

All in all our stay at the Avenue Inn was great. The room was nice, it was clean and breakfast was good. The hotel is conveniently located to restaurants, the beach and shops. However, the staff was not very friendly. One evening it was pouring rain. We asked at the front desk if we could borrow an umbrella. We were given a look as if we had horns and told no. The next night I asked for dinner suggestions. The young man behind the desk said to my wife and I, "well I guess the pizza is perty good down at Grotto". Given the amount we spent for the room, I don't think it would be too much to ask that the staff be trained to handle dinner recommendation questions or maybe have a 1/2 dozen umbrellas available for rainy nights in an obviously pedestrian friendly town. Lastly, if you have a choice between driving a small car and large car when staying here, drive the samller car. The parking garage is very tight.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and for letting us know of the less than stellar service you received. I have discussed the issues with our manager and the problem, which never should have occured, has been solved. Both umbrellas and information sheets, listing our favorite restaurants of all types, are and always have been available to our guests. Our goal is to make every guests visit an enjoyable and memorable stay due to our effortst to cover all requests and needs a guest may have at the beach. I apologize for not fulfilling the level of service I demand and your expect. I hope you will give us another chance the next time you visit Rehoboth.

For the price, the location, the quality, I don't need to look further. I did research Hotel Rehoboth because it was now higher than Avenue Inn in ratings, but rejected it because it was further away from the beach. I had another excellent stay at Avenue Inn and won't go anywhere else from now on.

Everything about this Inn is classy and take this from someone who is very particular about hotel accomodations and service. Beginning with the call to reserve, customer service is friendly and courteous. The rooms were well appointed with microwave and fridge with excellent lighting. The private balcony over looking Rehoboth Avenue was terrific if you like people watching. The indoor pool, sauna and hot tub were wonderful. Melissa Moulder, a massage therapist in the spa was exceptional! Parking-no hassle. Delicious continental breakfast, including eggs on Sunday (restaurants are all about if needed) with wine and cheese and chocolate chip cookies in the evening. And the complimentary champagne in honor of my birthday was a touch of class. Just a delightful stay all around and will happily book again in the future!
