“First time back since remodel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

We have stayed at the Avenue Inn many time over the past 6 or 7 years, but this is the first time since the remodel was completed. The new lobby, lounge and breakfast room are amazingly done. There is so much more space now but its still comfortable and friendly.
They have made little upgrades to the room, but by comparison the rest of the hotel's wear show all the more so. Its still very nice, but the rooms and other public areas do need to be refreshed now to match the level of the work in the lobby area.
One thing that was kinda odd, the room had a DVD player but no remote to control it or get the DVD to play. We had a episodic DVD and in no way could get to the episode we wanted to watch without a remote. I don't know if the room just didn't have a remote, or they aren't provided, We didn't ask as it really wasn't that big a deal to us, we weren't there to watch DVDs.
So I think that if they refresh the rest of the hotel this hotel will really be something special.
The new lobby bar (Avenue Lounge) is really well done, but you will pay town prices for drinks. Its open to the public as well as the hotel guests of course. The new outside sitting area with fire pit are a real nice touch too.
We will be back.

Room Tip: To be in the mix of the town, get a room on Rehoboth Avenue.

For us, Avenue II has proved to be the perfect family hotel. Friendly staff, excellent hot breakfast, three blocks from the beach (beach towels provided), walking distance to everything, excellent bar (for the adults), bike rack in the garage, outdoor hose, quiet, comfy. We love it.

Been staying at the Avenue Inn since it first opened. We always have the best time. Jim
does a fantastic job with the place. They have such special touches, like the breakfast, wine and cheese and you can't forget the warm chocolate cookies. They just did a beautiful remodeling of the lobby, breakfast room and wonderful gym. Then there is the indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, beach chairs. Rehoboth Beach is a beautiful place to visit. The staff is very nice and helpful also.

Room Tip: Love the rooms with balcony facing Rehoboth Avenue.

My friend Mary Beth recommended this hotel to me and I am so happy she did. This hotel was very clean and had beautiful beachy décor. Staff was very courteous and super helpful. Made for a relaxing birthday weekend. They also provide beach chairs and towels. Plus a ride back and forth to the beach (thanks Lew). I absolutely enjoyed my stay and can't wait to return with all my friends.

Room Tip: I choose a room off the main street with a balcony. If you looked to the right you could see the oce...

I always like to emphasize the good parts and The Avenue Inn & Spa has lovely public spaces on their main level and is located in the center of Rehoboth's main drag. The beach is a short walk, or complimentary golf cart ride away.
The people in reception were pleasant and helpful when making reservations, checking in, and during our stay.
The Inn provides several rounds of goodies during the day and a continental breakfast. The coffee was very good.
The hotel is extremely clean throughout.

Now the bad - when you are at their website and see a photo of adirondack chairs near water, that would not be here. In fact, many of the photos are not at all representative of the hotel.
The Inn has a poorly stocked bar and after trying three times to find something they did have - is Southern Comfort really an exotic beverage - we ordered two vodkas to the tune of $21. Really? Is this DC? The next afternoon, we had them at a nearby bar for significantly less. So drink elsewhere.
Our room was a two room suite with a window overlooking lower commercial roofs. The sitting area had a sleeper sofa which was stained and had a torn cushion.
The bedroom had two queen beds, one which was as hard as a board, the other past replacement due to its bumpiness. We ended up trying both and splitting up, with my husband lying across the lumpy bed. The ac sounded at night like a 747 taking off and we turned it off. Thankfully, it was cool enough to get by with the window open. But after closing, the bar crowd was out and about exercising their lungs. The last time I looked at the alarm it was 2. The next morning, I was using the blow dryer and it had some terrible rattling inside and spit out a small hard piece of its interior as I was using it. We headed to the beach, not needing the chairs we had brought, since the hotel provides them and a pleasant ride to the beach on the golf cart I mentioned earlier. .
We debated staying the 2nd night we had paid for, but when we returned to our room and looked at those beds and remembered the racket the night before we knew we could not stay another.
We knew too, the Inn was booked and could do nothing about the beds. As for the noise, Saturday night at the beach was coming up and we knew that wouldn't improve.
However, when we were checking out, my husband mentioned the blow dryer and the receptionist never even noted it. As he was there, another customer was commenting on his ac, which would not shut off and was freezing and he was told to "try it again." Not a great parting impression.
One recommendation - bring earplugs.

This hotel was very clean, with updated furnishings and décor.
Staff was very courteous and helpful!!! Includes breakfast, wine and cheese hour, and cookies in the evening. The spa is also wonderful! There is overflow parking lot right down the street from the underground garage if needed. Made for a relaxing weekend. They also provide beach chairs and towels AND a ride back and forth to the beach (thanks Lew)!
Absolutely recommend this hotel.

My 89 year old mother and I had a wonderful time thanks to the amenities at Avenue Inn. She walks with the assistance of a cane and the hotel's golf cart ride provided her effortless access to the beach. Mary Lou at the front desk is a sweetheart and all of the staff is very friendly and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
