“Traditional and Historic Small Town Boardwalk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

The Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk has the distinction of being a perfect microcosm of what an ideal boardwalk should be. The boardwalk itself is set against a perfect white sand beach and the Atlantic Ocean, peeking across to other beach towns. There are frequently interesting boats and sonewhat less often dolphins in the water, pacing the boardwalk walkers from the ocean. The shops along the boardwalk are exactly what you would expect--mostly small local merchants (with the exception of the pizza shop, which is a large local merchant), game arcades, beach shops, and so forth. There are few to no big national chains on the boardwalk. Rehoboth Beach holds almost weekly special events, most of which end up on the Boardwalk including all the classic holiday celebrations, Jazz weekends, movie festivals, Sea Witch weekends for Halloween, and many other events. For these events, the entire small community and surrounding area all show up with their children and dogs. Rehoboth Beach is a family community and very friendly with it. Locals still appreciate it when you admire their dog or child, rather than finding it a dangerous and inappropriate familiarity. On the boardwalk you will find seniors walking together, children running or riding bikes or scooters, dog walkers, power walking groups, corporate jogging types, and a full range of visitors from all over the world. During the season (May-late October) the population of this tiny town can quadruple from the number of tourists and Summer visitors--largely families and young adults. We find Rehoboth Beach most relaxing in the Spring and Fall, as it is less crowded, less loud, and less expensive then, while still having lovely weather. As to diversions, there are organized fun (water parks, boat rides, game centers), natural fun (swimming, visiting the bird sanctuary, watching the dolphins, walking, etc.), sophisticated fun (bars, clubs, parties, concerts, festivals, fancy dining), and surprising good shopping (good bookstores, shopping outlets nearby that run a shuttle to the Boardwalk, funky homeware shops, an excellent Indonesian batik clothing and furniture store, lots of clothing stores including some with quirky and charming accessories. The person who is bored in Rehoboth Beach is a boring person. As long-term visitors, my husband and I recommend Reboboth Beach and its boardwalk.

“Nice little boardwalk”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

This is not the grandest boardwalk on the east coast, but its a nice little stop. Shops, pizza shops, soft serve, arcades and rides. Not a whole lot more you can ask from a small town boardwalk.

“1st time back in 15 years, nice for a quick overnight getaway!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

The last time hubby and I were in RB was about 15 years ago, when our then sons were young teens..

We returned recently for an overnight stay to attend a Jazz party at the Old Bay Restaurant on highway 1 and since we had a few hours to kill, we spent that time in downtown RB and the boardwalk...a lot has changed and much has grown....more shopping and places to eat than we remembered....we were pleasantly surprised to see more ethnic places to dine as well.

RB is definitely a family resort town.,.if you have small kids, you can't go wrong vacationing here..The beach is very nice, the boards are clean, and there is a real sense of family community as you walk the boards and the strip where a bulk of the shopping and eateries are...no big chain hotels, with the exception of a few familiar names, but independently run hotels and motels dominate this area, and throughout RB....

T-shirt shops and american fare dining are heavy on the boardwalk, which was a bit of a turn off for us, so most of our time was spent off the boards in the downtown/strip area.

My husband and I did not think there was much in the way of adult activities other than shopping and dining...but even that gets boring.....which is what we love about Myrtle Beach in South Carolina..although a much larger town than RB, there is so much to do, you could easily spend a week there and not get bored...however, for a quick overnight or weekend getaway, RB makes for a very nice place to stay...

We are planning to return in October for 4 days to attend the Jazz Festival and we are choosing to stay in the downtown area because of the abundance of places to eat and that it is walkable to everything.. We have about 6 or 7 events to attend during that long weekend, so we will have plenty to do...

“Best boardwalk around!”

Clean, safe. Plenty of updated bathrooms.
Seating is plentiful, so you can sit for a while and relax.
Enjoy an early morning stroll or late day walk.
