“Very convenient, family friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

While parts of the hotel are showing their age, the location pn the boardwalk more than compensated for this. Being able to
literally walk out onto the beach was a great plus. A nice surprise was that rental of beach chairs anx umbrella were included in the price greatly improved the overall value. The bar was somewhat overpriced but staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely stay again.

You can't beat the location of this hotel! Room was clean, but front lobby and elevators were a bit worn down and could use updating. Helpful staff, free beach chair & umbrella rental, new pool, and cold A/C. We had an ocean front room- great view! Overall great place to stay!

Booked the Sands online for last minute Friday evening stay for one night. Most hotels require 2-3 night minimum. We arrived Friday am 9:00am (check in was 4:00pm). Met the ladies at the front desk as we arrived,,, A lovely blonde and brunette... They were very friendly and kind. We said we came in early and mentioned we booked online and wondered whether we could be upgraded to an Ocean View. Not only did they upgrade us boys, but they allowed early check in at 9:00am. We had a lovely room King Size bed and amazing Ocean Views. We unpacked and walked around town, had lunch, came back and changed for beach.... Enjoyed the beach and then came back to relax in our room before we showered for drinks and dinner. The room was perfect, the hotel staff perfect and they provided beach chairs and umbrella for our beach day. It was the perfect romantic evening with the best guy in my life. Sometime spur of the moment can be the best times in your life. We had the best two days at the beach. Very Romantic... It did not hurt that the guy I am dating is also the perfect guy for me... Thank you again D and D

This was our 15th year coming to this property. The location is excellent, the majority of the staff is friendly and welcoming especially the bellman, Donnelle. Even though we only see him once a year he still remembers us to see us. Over the years I've had mixed reviews for this hotel. Pros: location, pool (which was redone this year and is excellent), proximity to activities, beach chairs and umbrellas for guests, towels for use at the pool, and the best housekeeping staff in all the years I've been there. Cons: pricey, my quoted price didn't match the bill I received when we checked in?? Got it straightened out though. Although our room was very clean the condition was not what one would expect for the price per night. The bathroom was especially in need of repairs and upgrades I.E. peeling wallpaper, old ball-style faucet that was extremely hard to turn on. They use these fabric shower curtains that stick to you when you're showering, there is no fan in the bathroom so the only mirror in the (in our case, suite) is constantly fogged making it difficult for one to get ready while another is showering. There are no towel bars to hang anything although we choose a room with a balcony so we can at least hang our wet beach clothes and towels out as well as our chairs and cooler. As our room had a refrigerator and microwave we ate bkfst and lunch in our room. It's been our experience over the years that the Sands hasn't had very good restaurants. We have our favorites in Rehoboth anyway. This year however, there was a bad storm one night and we thought it best to not venture our for dinner. We ate at the hotel's newly themed restaurant. We were one of three families there that night. There was a (one) very nice waitress and a supposed bartender helping her. Apparently there was only one cook in the kitchen because it took "forever" to get our food. And, the bartender had to look up drink recipes on his smart phone. The prices didn't reflect this level of poor service and incompetence. I'm sure the three employees did the best they could. Overall there seems to be a general lack of good management. That said, I will return to the Sands because of the location, the pool, and as long as they will negotiate price with me. The rate they initially quote is far too high for what they offer. (I've travelled a fair amount.)

Room Tip: Suites with balconies (south side, I think) are the best option for families. Lots of room, 2 TVs, 2...

During a stormy night, some of our employees didn’t make it in to work. The restaurant management could have closed the restaurant when employees called out but instead chose to keep it open so that our guests could dine inside rather than having to leave the hotel during a storm. Short-handed and without a bartender, a well-meaning employee stepped in to do the job in an attempt to serve a customer who chose to stay in rather than weather the storm. This guest did not ask for a simple beer or glass of wine or even a gin & tonic, so our employee looked up the drink recipe to make certain the drink ordered was made to the guest’s satisfaction. This guest criticized the employee for looking up the recipe but did not indicate that the drink was anything but fine. We aren’t always perfect but our management and employees sure “give it their all” in an attempt to meet a guest’s needs as they did in this case. (Please note that an email request sent to this guest for the opportunity to discuss their experience was unanswered.)

I have stayed in the past and had fun. I also have to admit that I was inebriated most of the time. This stay it was clear that the overall hygiene of the property was very poor. Walking down the hallways to the room, your feet would stick to the rugs...nasty. The boardwalk restaurant attached was about as low-class as it gets. The buffet caused many uncomfortable moments hours after taking part of it.

Room Tip: Don't wast your hard earned mony on this Property.

This reviewer’s inference that one would need to be inebriated to enjoy the Atlantic Sands Hotel is an affront to the many thousands of guests who spend time staying overnight in our hotel and dining in our restaurants each year. Hotel management has no record of this guest raising any issues or concerns during his recent stay nor during, or soon after, his meal at the Atlantic Boardwalk Grille. Many other reviewers report that the hotel staff provides a clean and comfortable environment and safe and enjoyable food for hotel and restaurant guests.

We just got home from a 3 night stay at the Atlantic Sands. We decided on this hotel based on a recommendation from friends. The nightly rate is comparable to other Rehoboth Beach hotels in the height of tourist season. We were willing to pay a bit more for the location and hotel amenities. The hotel is perfectly located right off of the boardwalk and beach, in easy walking distance to lots of great restaurants, shops, and Funland. We took advantage of the beach chairs and umbrellas provided by the hotel. What a great service! Some parts of the hotel seem a bit outdated or in need of repair, but we had no issues in our room. Our room was clean and quiet. We had an ocean-view room with two full-sized beds, which is exactly what I chose when I placed the reservation online. Our room was small, but was good enough for 2 adults and 2 kids for a 3 night stay. The beds were exceptionally comfortable. I slept very well each night, which is unusual for me when I stay in a hotel. The pool was a big hit with my kids. The shallow end is 3 feet deep, which was great for my 4-year-old who could stand while she practiced her swimming strokes. Friendly attendants stopped by each time several times we were at the pool to make sure that there were enough clean towels. Every employee who we talked to was friendly and helpful, which stood out to me. When we return to Rehoboth, we will definitely stay at the Atlantic Sands again.

Room Tip: Room 220 faces Maryland Ave and has an ocean view. The two full-size beds are very comfortable.

Thank you so much for noting the “child-friendly” design of our new pool and the attentiveness of our staff! Each of us take great pride and care in how we greet and care for our guests; we really want everyone to enjoy their vacation with us! Your comfort is key, so we’re also pleased to know that you got a good night’s sleep! That was our goal when we recently equipped the entire hotel with new Serta Perfect Sleeper beds. We appreciate your review of our property and service, are glad you saw the value in not only our location but what we provide, and we hope to welcome you and your family to the Atlantic Sands again soon for another great beach getaway!

Lets start by clarifying the title...
It's not the Ritz - But given the rates you would think its the Ritz-Carlton and we stayed at the Ritz-Carlton and paid rates like this:

Ritz-Carlton Phoenix, AZ - $179 a night
Ritz-Carlton Sarasota, FL - $289 a night
Ritz-Carlton Naples, FL - $379 a night

We wanted a quick beach stay due to our lack of time and so we picked Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The place we picked ? The Atlantic Sands Hotel.

We paid $340 a night and had a terrible experience in an old and poorly kept room.

We arrived at 11:30 AM.

Check in is at 4:00 PM - we were only staying one night so basically the rate that we were paying was far beyond the rate of $340 since we would only have the room for 19 hour not 24 hours since check-out the next day would be at 11:00 AM

What does this translante to you ask? $429 per night!

When we booked the room, we booked it online through the hotel and requested a king bed in a direct oceanfront room. The room the site gave us was the $340 per night room. However, when we checked-in the gentleman at the front desk said there are no king beds in direct oceanfront rooms.

Doesn't management at the hotel undertsand their online reservation system is not properly set up to accommodate the various requests?

Doesn't anyone at the hotel understand this new thing called the "Internet"

Isn't there anyone at the hotel that is actually in charge of online bookings and understands how to run a e-commerece platform?

We asked to speak to the manager who was wonderful in trying to accommodate us... so he told us that the room we had booked had no view.

No View? Really? A beachfront hotel at $340 a night with no view?
Well, we are at a beachfront hotel, does it have a balcony? - No? Not even a balcony? Any doors that open to let in the sea air? No?

What the manager did offer was an upgrade to a room with a balcony, not direct oceanfront but it did have a balcony that we could see the ocean from... but not a king size bed - but two double beds. Oh honey! Ilove you so much that we each get our own bed!!!

We took the room but were very unhappy with the rate, the condition of the room, the bathroom especially and the view we didnt have.

You really need to ask yourself however how badly do you want to be on the beach instead of near the beach. This hotel is a very poorly run enterprise and its at everyones' expense that it may continue to exist buit my guess not for long... Or at least it sholdn't.

Management is oblivious to hospitality standards.

When we checked in, we were not given anything informative about the hotel like what restaurants they had, what were the hours, and where they were.

We were given no channel guides in out room which had a small flat screen TV and an old tube TV.

We were given no informative literature whatsover and, I would be surprised if this hotel actually has much of a revunue stream for any ancillary services that they might provide. Certainly they are missing out on a huge - HUGE - food and beverage income stream since whatever services they offer are not advertised. Who rundsthis place anyway? I would think a couple of B grade bsiness students in their third semester could turn this hotel araound.

The bathrooms... mold, stained and craked caulking around the tub.

The bathroom sink - single lever ball had a missing cap exposing the screw - a 25 cent fix... but ignored. The hotel management is responsible for items like this. Hotel management should be embarrassed about running a hotel with a room like this - and I suspect it is not the only room like this.

See the photos.

Here is the worst part of all this.... We stayed after the 4th of July weekend. The beginning of the tourist beach season. How could management kick off the tourist season with rooms in the condition that we found? If this is how it looks at the beginning of the season then it speaks volumes about the desire to have a pristine and well kept property.

I believe you would fare much better by selecting a different hotel.... Or select this one and add a review like ours.

Room Tip: Wi-Fi is free but log on early in the day because tehre is not enough bandwidth. You will have trou...

We respectfully disagree with this review. Our internet reservation system offers clear descriptions or our rooms including that a King Suite North (the type of room this guest actually booked through our own internet website) is “non-ocean view” and our reservation confirmation email messages clearly indicate that our check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Both our rates and our check-in times are common for the Rehoboth Beach resort area. The suite originally booked by this guest was a recently renovated room with all new flooring, wall coverings, furniture, linens and the king bed he’d requested. He and his wife refused it upon arrival because it had no view. Our front desk manager offered to upgrade them to the only full oceanfront room with a balcony we had available for that night however the guest also refused it, saying he would not to wait for that room to be available at the 4 p.m. check-in time. We do not believe it is unreasonable, when checkout time is 11:00 a.m. and the hotel is heavily booked, to allow our housekeeping staff ample time to prepare rooms for incoming guests. In another attempt to satisfy this guest, our front desk manager offered them an upgrade to a two-room suite with two queen (not double) beds, a balcony and an ocean view – also at no additional charge. Hundreds of internet reservations are made here each month without issue or concern and the vast majority of our guests are so satisfied that they become repeat guests. Many have chosen us as their hotel of choice for many years in a row. Other guests are enjoying all aspects of their stay including our new oceanfront pool, oceanfront restaurant, outdoor cafe, coffee shop and other amenities. We invite everyone to visit our Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center Internet and Facebook pages to see and hear more from, and about, them and what our hotel really has to offer.
