“Loved It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2010

We visited over Thanksgiving vacation last fall and am sorry that I'm just now writing a review. When you arrive at the hotel, the outside doesn't look that impressive. The inside is an entirely different story! It's amazing. I don't know where to begin. Service was amazing every time we encountered a hotel employee. The room itself was nice---we didn't do the concierge level but that also sounded wonderful. I loved the fact that the hotel had different comfortable common rooms---my favorite was a room with games and a fireplace and newspapers to read, very comfy in cool weather. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and nice, even for two grown-ups and a little kid (sometimes that can be a little cramped but not at the Bellmoor). We really enjoyed the afternoon "tea" and my daughter loved trying the tea and the mini cupcakes, which were refreshed whenever necessary. Breakfast was served in the same area and was amazingly extensive. Nice areas to sit in with your family, either at regular tables or on a little porch-type area. Omelet station, lots of options to choose from, and multiple newspapers to choose from. Loved it! Great atmosphere and really nice place to stay.

The outside of the Bellmoor looks ordinary and uninteresting, so prepare yourself for a shock when you go inside! Every space is decorated with taste and imagination. In the lobby, sofas and chairs are covered in leather or luxury fabrics, oriental rugs cover some of the rich hardwood floors, and walls boast stunning bird prints. Our room was no exception--see below.

Checkin was smooth; we were directed to the parking garage where we were met by a bellman who whisked our baggage to our room while we rode the paneled passenger elevator. Even the elevator had an oriental rug! On the 4th floor, we found that our Roanoke Suite was beyond expectation. The carpet was a new-looking sisal clone (soft and pretty); the furniture was covered in expensive fabrics and the window treatments looked brand-new. All the walls were covered in new-looking grasscloth. We had a full kitchen (we used the fridge and the dishes and cutlery) and two full bathrooms, one attached to each king bedroom. The bathrooms were nice-sized and well-appointed: Tile floors, excellent towels, nice toiletries, good lighting. The best part of the suite was the fireplace. Overall the suite was so cozy and pretty we didn't want to leave it for dinner, so we got Chinese carryout from Confucius nearby (recommended by Jim at the front desk).

Spa treatments ranged from amazing to very good. My massage with Eydie was transcendent and my mani/pedi were pleasant but didn't last long. We did not try the hot tub.

Breakfast was a treat! The omelet bar attendants will make just about anything; all the add-ins looked fresh and appealing. On the cold table, we found yogurt with a selection of really good fresh fruit and granola, packaged cereal, lovely pastries, delicious biscuits, and so-so muffins. On the hot table, we found excellent sausages, fluffy fresh pancakes, and a surprising and delicious bread pudding. Coffee was good, OJ was thin and flavorless. Everthing was replenished promptly and tables were kept very clean. Newspapers were provided. Oddly, it was very difficult to find salt and pepper for the eggs.

Because we were on the concierge floor, we had access to a lovely common room and a fridge full of sodas and water--all gratis--plus a basket of snacks (pretzels, cookies, etc.) It was nice to have these in the room and on the road. Service was great. We had to call for service more than once (extra plates, blankets), and it always arrived promptly.

Overall we greatly enjoyed our stay. My only reservation is the price. $400 is a lot for even a beautiful suite during the depths of winter.

My husband and I spent Saturday night (2/21/10) at the Bellmoor Inn. Our room was lovely AND, except for a couple of spots, the carpet was clean (I've read some of the other reviews commenting on the stained carpet, which is often an issue with me). Our room was clean and comfortable, however.

My primary suggestion for the Inn would be to provide in addition to cookies and tea a wine bar later in the afternoon OR an "honor" bar which would include wine, liquor and snacks. Adults would appreciate this sort of an amenity.

One negative experience: three of the parking spaces in the covered area next to the entrance drive were covered with ICE -- can't understand why the ice wasn't removed. It was very dangerous and obviously created a situation of liability for the hotel.

We are a group of six couples who have traveled together for 14 years, almost always to B&Bs, but we have returned at least four times to the Bellmoor in the last five years. We are African Americans and there are times when there is a feeling of uncomfortableness with other guests--not hostile but definite surprise that we are sharing their surroundings. We have, however, never encountered any unpleasantness at any of our destinations and most certainly never at the Bellmoor. The Inn is lovely, breakfast outstanding and staff most professional and helpful. Kudos to Lesley, who has in the past been a wonderful contact and facilltator.

It was a nice enough place to stay but it's way too expensive for what you get. And on top of that, they charge a service fee (9%, I think) to cover gratuities. I see nothing about that on their website. SO REMEMBER, IF YOU STAY THERE, DON'T TIP ANYBODY!!!!!!! It's already covered in your hotel charge. I think it stinks that the establishment is not upfront about the charge!!!!!!!

Everyone who worked in the Inn treated us so very nice. I guess not too many African Americans visit the Inn so some guess acted a bit unsettled during breakfast and passing in the hallways. The rooms were so very nice but the furniture could use a good shampoo. Fireplace, deep jet tub and comfortable bed were outstanding. We will be staying there again and again so watch out unsettled guest.

What we loved the most: the amazing lobby with the fireplace in the librabry, 24 hour a day coffee service, wonderful complementary breakfast, and the employees at the desk were greawt. The hot tub was also very nice and clean.

What we didn't love: the carpet in the room was stained, the linens were pilled, the bed not wonderfully comfortable (it wouldn't be fair to say "uncomfortable"). We stayed in a room on the second floor in the main building. When I checked out, the gentleman at the front desk allowed me to view a couple of the rooms on the restricted 4th floor (you have to use your room key in the elevator to reach the 4th floor). These rooms were some of the best hotel rooms I have ever seen. The beds (although I just poked at them) seemed very comfortable and the linens were nice and soft and not pilled. Only problem... no children allowed on the 4th floor. I liked the guest rooms at Hotel Rehoboth much better because the beds were much more comfotable, rooms larger, and furnishings and bath fixtures nicer (stayed there 6/09).
