Location is superb, rooms are clean and the folks are very friendly and welcoming. I stayed with my mom who's in her 80s, so it was perfect as its' so close to the beach and the town center. No TV or wifi, but our room had a mini fridge. There is a coffee pot downstairs for those of us who can't function without our early cup of Joe! We shared a bathroom/shower - no problem at all, but did have a wash basin in the room. Rooms 1 & 2 on the top floor are large with their own bathrooms. Bike rentals next door and coffee shops & Lingo's Market are just a block away. They also provide a parking pass, which is really handy. As long as you're not looking for the lap of luxury, this is a gem.

We stay at The Whitson for a few days nearly every summer. This year marks the thirty-fifth year. It's a homey, unpretentious guest house. In our younger days we'd get a room without bath and share facilities down the hall. This year we have three generations staying. Everything is within walking distance.

We stay at the Whitson every summer and think its a great value. A block from the beach and two blocks from the center of town. The rooms on the top foor all have their own bath and a mini fridge as well as individual air conditioning units. The rooms are clean, just dated. The kids love waking up and walking to the beach in their PJs. Lingo's Market is just a block over so it great to grab fresh made bagels and sit on the wrap-around porch to munch on breakfast. And, when it rains, its fun to sit on the porch and watch everyone racing to escape as we settle in after our short walk from the beach.

Everything is in walking distance, The staff provide a parking pass so you can park on the street the entire time you are there. We often never move the car because we just walk everywhere. One tip, if you do arrive on Friday and have to park several blocks away, remember that check out time on Saturdays is around 10 -11 so parking spots open up then.

Its a no frills kind of place - no TV or radio but with computers and iPods our kids have what they need to entertain themselves. I'd rather have a fabulous dinner at the Cultured Pearl than stay at a fancier place where I spend so little time in the room. When the kids are asleep, we hang out on the porch with glass of wine. We've met teachers and lawyers and small business owners who just love the homey atmosphere - lots of regulars.
