“Quaint”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

I guess this is a staple in Newark, Delaware. Located in an older building by the train tracks. Staff couldn't have been
nicer - super accommodating and friendly. Food was fresh and tasty. Would definitely go
back next time we are in town.

“A trip down memory lane--but upscaled!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

I am a graduate of the University of Delaware--which might be a very interesting thing to be if the 2016 election is Chris Christie vs Joe Biden--both University of Delaware graduates. It is not your usual boring Harvard vs Yale. When I went to Delaware, the pickup bar was The Stone Balloon, but the serious bar was the Deer Park. There were 2 sections--a back room for the townies--very serious drinkers and a second part for the students. I have what they call an eidetic memory--my memory is photographic for all of the senses and I remember the Deer Park having the most delicious half pound hamburger on the planet. The atmosphere had been grungy college and this was a great place to unwind after 1.5 grueling hours of Advanced Calculus two times weekly. Anyway, I went back and found something completely different. The Deer Park is now respectable! It has charm and atmosphere and is sort of a neighborhood pub, but without the feel of a chain. Of course, I ordered the hamburger, but you can't go home again. It was beautiful, but it was cooked medium well and I like my burgers much more rare, even though that isn't really safe. I was totally impressed by all of the really gourmet selections on the menu and the cleaned up atmosphere. I was a little nostalgic for the old dive, but this Deer Park will really appeal to the masses. Again, this is a bar--I am saying family, but probably not for little children--especially at night. For lunch, it would be okay.

“Can never go wrong!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Rang in the New Year with an early dinner with friends... the atmosphere was festive (not wild) and the service was excellent. The food was great, as usual and a good time was had by all. We are locals, but the DP is home to anyone who crosses its threshold.

“WARM PLACE ON A COLD DAY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

We were out with a friend looking for the Mason/Dixon line starting point in White Clay Creek state park and we got hungry. After getting slightly lost we re-found the tavern. Great place. Older bar and comfortable seating for a late lunch. Service was great and friendly. Specials were good and reasonably priced. Very good draft beer selection.
