“The only place we'll stay from now on...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2011

On our last trip to visit our family in DE, we stayed at the Homewood Suites. We really liked this hotel! First, it is in a nice location in Newark, close to the University and a few local restaurants, and easy access to I-95. The rooms were big, very well kept, and felt classier than the other hotels we stayed in on our trip. The bed was very comfortable and we had a wonderful night's rest before our flights the next day. The only downside was that the air return for the AC was in the bedroom and could be loud if you are a light sleeper. While we didn't sit down and eat breakfast in the morning, they had a nice selection of cereals and juice that we could grab for the kids for the car. Overall, we really enjoyed staying in this hotel and decided that we will be staying here whenever we come to town.

Traveling with family and our grandson, this was a stop over on the way back home from Virginia. A great place with a great staff. Very helpful! Would stay here again.

Room Tip: They are all good!

A fantastic hotel in a great location. Apart from the fact that the hotel rooms and facilities were great, the deciding factor were the people working there. Everyone was friendly and eager to help in any way they could. Nothing was too much trouble, whatever time of the day or night.
The breakfast was out of this world. where you'd pay a good $30 at a upscale hotel, here was just as much choice thrown in for free. Also, there was an excellent evening buffet that was also complimentary.
I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel and I will be visiting here again in the future. You should do so too. You won't be dissapointed.

We had a 1-bedroom 2-bed suite.

Likes:
--- We liked having a sitting area separate from the sleeping area.
--- Breakfast had a good selection of items.
--- Business center was well maintained and served our needs.
--- Room was clean and fresh and visually appealing.
--- Pool and exercise room was adequate. Pool looked good, although I did not use it.
--- Windows open a few inches. This is a rare treat in a hotel, these days.
--- Air conditioning system was quieter than in most hotels that we've stayed in.

Dislikes:
--- Web-site says “two comfortable queen-size luxury beds with Jumbo Down Dream Pillows”. Not true! The beds are full-size, not queen-size. For a family of 4, that makes a BIG difference. Also the “Down Dream” pillows were over-stuffed foam balls that compressed very little and were not formable as down pillows are.
--- Every night, the bottom sheets came off both beds. The bottom just did not stay fitted onto the bed.
--- The sitting room and bedroom each had a smoke alarm that had a flashing strobe-light that was the size of a pencil eraser. Every 30 seconds a bright strobe light flashed thru the room. If you sleep on your back, you could see it thru your closed eyelids. (A strobe light a bedroom? What were they thinking?!?) If you left the bedroom door open, you saw the effects of TWO strobes. We had to cover the smoke alarms with a towel in order hide the lights.
--- The bathroom had absolutely no venting. There is no exhaust fan and the vent that was there was not drawing any air out of the room.
--- Very few TV channels, less than 20.
--- Elevators were slow. They groaned and one of the two sometimes gave us a clunk and a shake.

We dont plan to stay here again.

If you need a place to stay and are not looking to spend a lot of money, this is a wise choice. The rooms are clean and the staff very helpfull. Additionally, if you are here for business, lots of places to eat close if you don't want to cook in the room.

Stayed here recently en route to the DE shore.....suite was everything we expected from a Homewood Suites, including clean, comfortable, well designed, and very quiet. It was nice that you could actually open the extra large windows. Beds were incredibly comfortable and having a mix of both feather and synthetic pillows is always nice. We stayed on a Thursday night and enjoyed a complimentary dinner buffer which included baked ziti, spaghetti and meatballs, and a freshly made salad. The free wine and draft beer were also greatly appreciated after 8 hours of driving! Staff was extremely helpful and accommodating in every way. Only negatives were that the entrance is poorly marked (no sign on side we drove in on) and my gps took me to U Delaware across the street! Also the air conditioning in the lobby was broken the day we were there and it was hot....but I felt much worse for the staff who regardless of the heat, went about there work with great attitudes! Would definitely stay again.
