Originally built in 1692, this home, with all it's history and charm, and most especially it's owners, Don and Amy, will win you over immediately! We spent a week in this lovely establishment on our first vacation as a family, and we couldn't have been happier! Don and Amy made their home feel like a home away for us, while still making it feel special and luxurious. If you're headed this way, there is no other place to stay!!
Amy is the perfect hostesses. With homemade granola, scones, jam, fresh fruit, juices, and plenty of other treats, she makes breakfast on the weekdays feel like a special occasion. The table is always set with real china, cloth napkins, a fresh flower arrangement, and plenty of food. She's always there to make sure you have everything you need...towels, sheets, tour books, water, anything. And she keeps the guest fridge stocked with drinks and snacks so that there's always a little something to munch on when needed!
Don fixes stellar hot breakfasts on the weekends. From an egg-white omelet with roasted red peppers and mushrooms, to gluten-free french toast, he did it all, and it was ALL wonderful! Our one-year-old ate more than we did, I think, because it was all so good! He's also great with fixing things around the house and helping with directions, travel advice, and anything else you may need while you're there. They make a wonderful pair!
The website shows three rooms, but there are actually a couple more. They have a room for any scenario you can dream up. My husband and I stayed in the Cassatt, and had our one-year-old in the Copley (all the rooms are named after artists). The two rooms have access to each other through the Cassatt bathroom, though they are not connected. Worked great as a family, but could work for couples traveling together or a girls weekend, etc. The Wyeth was across the hall with it's own bathroom and a view of the backyard. That's a great room too.
None of the rooms have a t.v., and you won't miss it! Despite the fact that the house is over 300 years old, there are lots of modern amenities like wi-fi, a basement gym with new treadmill and elliptical machine, HE washer and dryer, motion censored lights through the halls so you don't stub your toe in the middle of the night, and even a key-pad entry so you don't have to worry with a key! (But, there is a t.v. in the family room, if you need it!)
They are pet friendly, and have their own friendly pets. We enjoyed getting to know the dogs, Bailey and Brandy, and cat, Monty, while we were there. They will love on you, if you love on them, or stay out of your way if you're not a big fan.
From our very first communication by e-mail, Amy was friendly and prompt with everything, and it remained that way through our very last day there. You will love this adorable gem on the outskirts of downtown Newark! It's perfect for pretty much any reason you need a place to stay. In fact, you may invent a reason just to come back!
Contact Don and Amy directly for your reservations; they will help you decide which room works best...
