“Fine stay at Emabssy”

Embassy Suites Newark - Wilmington/South

May 5, 2008

I've never been a huge fan of Embassy Suites (all around) as I don't like the design of the rooms and the huge inside courtyard can be noisy.

But this Embassy is fine. Rooms are clean, great breakfast, manager's reception (beer/wine/food) on weeknights.

Very convenient location.

“Very Nice”

This is a terrific hotel. I picked it because I was traveling with my kids, and we fit well in the suite-style rooms. But the whole place has a more up-scale feel than I expected. The staff, the pool, the breakfast -- we all loved it.
And it's connected to a TGIFridays, which, with the kids and all, was convenient and fun.

I only stayed one night, so I can't attest to everything. And the hotel isn't anywhere near the quainter parts of Newark or the heart of the university. But I'll be lucky to find a place this nice next time the family travels.

My wife and I visited here the week of New Years Eve and was our first stay here. Excellent property and Staff was very helpful. It is a great area weather was in 50's first 3 days and then got colder so we were able to visit some local state parks. Also visited Longwood Gardens and the Delaware State Natural History Museum.
Food was very good we had the cook to order breakfast and attached to hotel is TGIF which was very good because we came back late some nights and they were still open.

“Worst omelet ever!”

Embassy Suites Newark - Wilmington/South

Jan 5, 2008

Okay, to be fair my room was very nice and it was quiet...however, one of the reasons I choose to stay at Embassy Suites is because of there great breakfast buffet, especially the made to order omelets. I have stayed at many different locations, and this was my first stay at this location...I went to order my omelet and you can not select what you want in your omelet the ingredients are behind the counter. You tell the cook. I told the cook and he proceeded to make the omelet in an incorrect manner. Instead of using the omelet pan in front of him, he smeared the eggs on the grill thin on top of way too much oil and put a measly amount of filling I requested. The result a GREASY EGG pseudo crepe thing that was horrid. I complained and the cook was not very receptive stating he had been there for four years and that was how he always made them. I stated he should use the omelet pan...after much insistence he did but incorrectly cooked the omelet...resulting in raw mushrooms...too much bacon and again a greasy mess...I asked for the manager at the front desk and was told no manager was on duty...the front desk did nothing. The rest of the food did not compensate...UGH!

Management Response
Embassy_GM, General Manager
(Management representative)
Jan 12, 2008
My name is Bill Silva, General Manager, at the Embassy Suites Newark / Wilmington South. I found this review to be very valuable and will be sure to discuss with our culinary team. The option of omelet choices and the manner in which it is prepared are very simple things that should be a guest’s choice.

We always have a manager available for our guests, so I will also be sure to discuss with our front office team as well.

Again, thank you for the valuable feedback and I am glad the remainder of your trips was delightful. Join us in Newark for an omelet cooked to order, your way anytime.

Happy Hospitality,

Bill Silva

For Thanksgiving my wife and I made a trip from Richmond, VA to Pennsylvania and opted to stay in the MD/DE state line arean for the night. Last year we made the same trip and stayed at the Hampton Inn Elkton (see my other reviews) but this time opted for the Embassy Suites because it was cheaper than!

First impressions were good. Seems like an almost new hotel directly attached to a TGI Fridays, with a sister Homewood Suites next door. Check-in was fast at around 8pm. As a Hilton HHonors Gold member it was my first stay at an Embassy Suites and I was really impressed with the product and value for money. The atrium was bright and exceptionally clean and the staff were very friendly informing us of pool, business centre and breakfast times and location.

We'd missed the Manager's Reception in the evening and went up to the room on the 6th floor to drop our stuff of before being lazy and going to TGI Fridays.

The room was quite spacious and spotlessly clean. A nice letter had been left for me from the 'Hilton HHonors Manager' with details of the complimentary wireless internet access and a couple of bottles of water in the fridge.

The only problems we experienced were that the walls were rather thin and a tribe next door (there must have been a dozen of them!) were pretty noisy. A phone call to the front desk which was quickly followed up (we heard the phone ring!) and they were quiet for a bit longer. Also I prefer slightly harder pillows and these were really soft!

Breakfast the following morning was a buffet affair with a whole range of cold and hot food as well as made to order omelettes. The chef was very friendly and chatty and wished me a Happy Thanksgiving (as did the staff at checkout) and the omelette was good although the rest of the cooked food wasn't that great. The selection overall was pretty good though I prefer breakfast at Hiltons. To be expected when you are only paying $120/night though!

Other random things...The toiletries in the bathroom smelled really great and they had shower gel as well as soap which is much better than the soap or soap choices you often find.

Overall I found this to be a great stay, the only issue which others may experience problems with is the thin walls. I've switched a couple of my upcoming stays to Embassy Suites from Hiltons as I was so pleased with the core product and will certainly stay at this location again should I be in the area.
