“Great Food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2008

When we ate here it was with a large group, meaning we took up 1/2 of the place! lol
The place is very small but very quaint. Our service was OK but nothing to write home about but with such a large group service is usually mediocre since they are trying to get all orders to everyone at the same time.

Anyway the food is fabulous. We had the following items.
Swedish Crayfish
Sweet Potato Cakes
Their chowder
Dutch Pot Roast and the baked crab.

All the food was great! A neat place not to be missed....especially in the evening.

“Food fine, service horrible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2008

We stopped at Jessop's in April of 2008 for lunch. The two sandwiches were ok. The sweet potato fries were cold. The service was absolutely horrible. Our waitress was too busy trying to send an email she'd "been trying to send all morning" to respond to the couple behind us trying to get their bill. She actually brought her laptop out and sat it on the bar and ignored the customers. I have a feeling our order sat for awhile as she attempted to get her message out, and that was why the fries were cold. When she finally got back to us at the end of the meal, we ordered coffee and bread pudding. The coffee came, the bread pudding didn't. When we finally got her to come to the table again 15 minutes later, she said she thought we had changed our mind about the dessert. I think she would have given us our bill with our coffee if that had been the case.

In the meantime, the rest of the staff managed to walk around a very small restaurant without making eye contact with anyone, ignoring all the customers with empty coffee cups and dirty plates. The bartender let a customer stand at the bar for several minutes in search of change so she could pay her bill, while she fiddled wth bar supplies, even after the customer asked loudly if she could get some change.

We weren't impressed.

“The coziest restaurant in Delaware!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2006

I've been here twice, and both times the food was fantastic.

Go on a cold evening and sit in one of the tall cozy booths in back. This is comfort food on a grand scale! I've had the Shepherd's pie and Dutch pot roast. Both amazing. The cheese, fruit and sausage appetizer platter is nice to share. The history and charm of this place are a definite must to experience.
