“outstanding”

Inn at Montchanin Village

My partner and I planned to stay at the Inn for one night on our way to Baltimore. We loved it so much that we canceled our plans and remained at Montchanin for the rest of our trip. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the room was tasteful, inviting and comfortable and the bathroom was downright luxurious. We could tell much thought was put into providing the guests with the best experience possible. Details such as umbrellas in the room, a soft and hard pillow per person, remarkably soft sheets, complimentary snacks and refreshments in the room which included a choice of decaf, partly caffeinated and caffeinated tea and an amazing turn down service made us feel very welcome and pampered. They even had fresh cut flowers. I highly recommend this place.

“Beautiful in the fall”

Inn at Montchanin Village

This was our first visit to The Inn at Montchanin Village and it was very pleasant. We were greeted warmly at reception and promptly shown to our room. The room was very nice: good size, lovely linens on the bed, attractive fireplace and pretty but comfortable furnishings throughout. The clean, beautiful bath was full of fluffy warm towels and nice tioletries. We walked around outside and enjoyed the beautiful landscaping packed into such a small space, before heading out to enjoy some of the local attractions. The highlight of our stay was Krazy Kats restaurant. We had dinner there upon our arrival, and loved it. Breakfast was nearly as enjoyable and very generous. We liked dinner so much that we returned there for a second night, something I can't remember ever having done before in all our travels. The wait staff is exceptionally well trained and professional. Overall it was really nice and because it is close, we may return there sometime. There were two disappointments in our stay, however. First, the mattress was not too comfortable and could be replaced. Second, we were there for my husband 40th birthday, and despite informing them when I made the reservation, and the dinner reservation, and again when we checked in, it was not acknowledged in any way. We did observe other birthdays being celebrated at Krazy Kats. I'm sure they would have done something if I had asked, but truthfully this is where I distinguish 'very good' from 'superb' service. We have stayed at other SLH hotels and have come to expect this.

My husband and I stayed 1 night at The Inn in September 2005. We were in town for a wedding and I had been wanting to visit The Inn and took advantage of the opportunity, although I would have liked to have stayed a longer period. We both enjoyed it enough that we agreed we would return for a long weekend sometime. The whole idea is so different, I rated it above average, but it is different. The fact that my husband is willing to return says alot, because he's really not into the inn thing. What made the difference is that the exteriors are very period, but the interiors are very comfortable. It wasn't overly antique-y. I've never seen a selection of magazines like they had in my life, both in the room and at the barn (check-in) The room was nice, much larger than I expected, we had a separate sitting area (wish i could remember our room name, it was an upstairs room something with an H) connecting to the bedroom by a hall which had a small fridge, coffee maker and the sink was also located there. Good lighting and I like when the sink isn't in the bathroom. The bathroom itself was a little small, stand up shower only but very colorful with warm reddish color washed walls. Nice tumbled tile shower with listello and thick glass door. It also had a heater which I appreciate because I tend to be cold blooded. We were at a wedding so we didn't get to participate in the honor bar or socializing at the barn in the evening. In the winter with the fireplace it would be so cozy. Had breakfast at Crazy Kats the next morning. Very good, great service. French toast that stood about 8" off your plate. Very thick. Close to major highways, so it feels islolated, but within 5 minutes your back to suburban city life. We took a jaunt up to King of Prussia, PA before heading home about an hour. Very cozy for a couple but I understand they do have a two bedroom suite with twin beds. Could be pretty neat for a small family too.
