“Any Place To Stay But Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2008

We arrived mid afternoon at this hotel. We were given a clean room, but the door would not lock. we asked for another room, the gave us a room that the phone did not work, I needed this as I have family in Milford. third room had a bullet hole in the door to the outside wall. third room was acceptable. I have to admit the staff corrected the problems, but we felt as though we were causing them drama. I have not returned and will never stay in this hotel again.

Having made last-minute plans to visit the DE beaches for the weekend, I booked a room at the Super 8 in Milford (about 20 miles from Rehoboth)... because the in-town properties were either full or had no online booking, and the price was reasonable. This motel is nothing fancy -- its location right next to an auto dealership on the bypass highway is a good indication -- but it doesn't claim to be. The rooms are basic; no frills. A hanging rack instead of a closet, for example. And they could stand a few more -- or more powerful, or better located -- lamps. On the other hand, though, the place is clean and tidy, the staff personable and helpful, and certain amenities are excellent. All rooms have microwaves and small fridges, which are necessities for anyone on a special diet (which I was) or who for any reason needs to travel with his own food. The lobby has coffee 24/7, and there is the standard motel "continental breakfast" served every AM. And the bathrooms appear to have been recently renovated. They are unusually spacious, with ample counter space, and the shower was among the most comfortable I've ever used. The bed felt wobbly at first, but turned out to be very comfortable, and the TV worked well and pulled in 70+ channels. So, all in all, if you're looking for a place to hang your hat overnight in eastern Delaware, and you're more in the market for value than frills, this Super 8 will suit just fine.

  • Liked — bathroom - spacious, newly redone, and great shower
  • Disliked — lack of light in bedroom

The Bureau of Public Health and The Delaware State Police should make a joing raid on this motel at night. There is alot of illegal activities going on. The rooms looked clean and the Motel looked nice when we paid for our rooms and settled in. As the night wore on, we were attacked by Bed Bugs. After collectiing a few well fed ones from my bed, I took them to the proprieter and presented them...he did not say a word and returned my money for our 2 rooms in full..and requested that we return our key cards when we left. Since the hour was so late, it was not worth going to another hotel or motel for 4 hours so we slept in our cars in the parking lot. We had to keep the doors and windows locked secondary to the multiple people in and out of the motel rooms apparently purchasing their products and services..makes me wonder if the proprieter was part of the activity or getting a cut of the profits... I would like to say to the proprieter...Please make this Super 8 motel family friendly and safe for travelers. Please make it the motel that is advertised. If not, do us all a favor and close it or sell it to someone who will and can improve it and make it representative of Super 8 franchise motels. It is not fair to put families in jeapordy for their physical safety, health , and general welfare. Also many of us are just trying to take our families on a vacation to the beach and staying at a motel with the type of experience that we had, is just not fair to us nor fair to our children.
Thank you for allowiing me to share my comment.

  • Liked — looked attractive and clean when we walked in the door
  • Disliked — bedbugs, people in and out of rooms all night with obviously illegal activities going on...several of these people offered services and products to some of my adult family members present

The worst place ever, sleeping in a dumpster would be better.
After calling for two rooms that we got with (2) confimation numbers to verify our reservations. We went to the front desk and they only had (1) room reserved with no second room in the computer the confirmation number just vanised and this being a Saturday evening with everybody wanting a room near the beach. The front desk was no help and wasn't concerned that they screwed us, a group of 8 that need room to sleep for a early fishing trip rise the next morning. We found vacancy in a near by hotel and they were very concerned and helpful about our suituation. They also stated to us that we better off not staying there. So went back to the Super 8 and canceled our rooms.

Now after reading other reviews it sounds like this place is in need of major improvements all around....

Super 8 corporate should review this establishment

We had come to trust Super 8 for cleanliness and family owned hospitality. This was motel was horrible. Unsavory characters hanging in the stairwells, very unfriendly staff, and absolutely no continental breakfast as advertised. The room hadn't been vacuumed and smelled as if someone only splashed very potent cleaner on the bathroom floor. (There were beer bottle caps still on the floor.) The entire place is in disrepair.
Super 8 should pull their name from this establishment.
It's a disgrace!

Bathroom area (consisting of a bathtub/shower and toilet) was found to be substandard. The bathtub/shower was rather dirtied not only within the tub, but also with scum build-up about the faucet and spigot areas. The toilet seat was quite worn, and had what appeared to be shoe prints upon it. The condition of the toilet bowl interior was deplorable, at best. It contained a brown residual matter, as well as an accumulated ring of bacteria build-up similar to that of algae (which takes a number of days to reach such a state). Serious health-code violation.

My accompanying party would not shower, nor could we adequately use the toilet in its condition. Clearly apparent, was that proper measures were not taken in preparing the quarters for future guests, as also noticed by Dunkin Donuts coffee cups left by prior occupants. These concerns were immediately brought to the Attendant’s attention at departure in asking to speak with the Manager for adjustment to bill. Bill was padded additional $49 (no bar, cable, phone, room-service, etc. charges). Owner/Manager phoned five (5) times to resolve matter. Would not return calls or dodged my calls. Have forwarded concerns to Better Business Bureau of Wilmington Delaware.
