I don't usually rent hotels in Dewey Beach, for fear of the unknown, but I recently stayed in town for an extra day or two due to a business trip that brought me down that way, so I jumped online to check out my options when I came across this little gem. This used to be the Sandcastle Hotel, for those who have frequented the area for as long as I have. It was a breath of fresh air to find a hotel in town within walking distance of restaurants and the beach that was so sleek and stylish. It reminded me more of staying in a hotel in Miami than in Dewey.
The lobby was really breezy and open, with flowing white curtains surrounding the door that gave it a real resort feel. When I walked inside to check in, the lobby was adorned with bright colors and a shabby chic appearance that is perfect for the beach. Lots of color accents and distressed wood boarding. It makes you exhale instantly and realize that you are indeed at the beach and it's time to relax.
The rooms had a great clean style and aesthetic to them, as well, with fresh white linens, faux wood floors and headboards, animal print rugs, and large flat-screen TV's affixed to the walls. The decor is sparse, but really appealing and the rooms are quite large in size. The bathroom amenities are a bit different, as the shampoo and conditioner are in dispensers secured to the shower wall (think gym style), but the linens and towels were very clean and new. The rooms also come equipped with a spacious mini fridge and microwave that work really well.
I spoke with the owner, Mike, to tell him what a great job they had done at refurbishing the hotel, and he informed me that they had been getting a good response and that he is planning to continue to make updates to the hotel to make it even better as they get feedback. Super friendly and accommodating guy.
There aren't any elevators, but this is pretty typical/standard for a beach hotel. The property is only three stories, high, so not too much of a worry, and each room is located on a breezy outdoor hallway overlooking the pool and Route 1, giving it a really fun, communal feel. I would say that it does get a little rowdy on Route 1 at night, but that is to be expected in Dewey, so you can't hold that against them. That is why most folks are there, after all!
If you are down in the summer, the pool looks clean and as it would be a lot of fun and very social. The hotel is also equal walking distance to pretty much all of the popular bars and restaurants due to its central location. The Bottle & Cork is right across the street, The Starboard is only about a block away, and same goes for Que Pasa, The Rudder, and The Lighthouse in the other direction.
I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel if and when you need a place to stay in Dewey! Affordable, clean, stylish, place with a super friendly staff, and central location. What more could you ask for?!
