We received a gift certificate to the Waters Edge. It didn't cover the whole rate. My husband and I were happy to get away. The place was nice but nothing special. The staff seemed annoyed with there jobs. They didn't promote a happy, have fun atmosphere. We did enjoy a nice meal in the restaurant and enjoyed drinks in th elounge. it was hard to get service at the outdoor bar( and no one was there).

My husband surprised me for my 60th. Mystery ride. When we arrived at noon, we stopped by front desk to let them know we had arrived, knowing arrival time was 3:00. We were greeted (if that's what you want to call it) by Leah. Not a smile, nor a good personality She said "YES??" We were a bit taken aback. She took our cell# and said she wd call asap. Without a call, we came back at 2:50. Oh, the room still wasn't ready (10 more minutes) Husband wasn't happy. We turned to walk away and wait, and behind us Tracy calls, SIR, YOUR ROOM IS READY! We turned, are you talking to us?It was SUCH a turn off, it ruined our wkend, never ate there, expensive to hang your head only. Although the room was clean, I thought it smelled OLD in there. Did find 2 great restaurant, AlForno Ristorante (Ben, owner's son-fabulous, food amazing), and Gabrielles-mussells TO DIE FOR!! Went there two days in a row for mussells.

Room Tip: Possibly a room facing the water would have been nice. Over $300.00 a night to face parking lot.

What a wonderful find! The Water's Edge is an amazing resort and Spa, and perfect for the entire family! Situated right on Long Island Sound, with a marvelous beachfront, including an Island that we all could walk to during low tide! The property is gorgeous, the rooms clean, spacious, and the view from the restaurant is fabulous! Overlooking the Beachfront and Long Island Sound. You can swim in the pool, rent kayaks, or simply lounge under an umbrella on the beach. We thought the outdoor beach bar was a perfect touch, and it gave a very tropical feel to our July vacation on the shore. The food was great, and we all thought that this venue was outstanding!
We will be back for a family reunion as the resort is very conveniently situated for travels coming from New York, Connecticut, or Boston!
Just a note.... it is easier /faster to go to order drinks from the two outside Beach Bars, rather than waiting for a waitress to come to the pool, especially when it is crowded.
Kudos to Water's edge for making our stay top notch. We will be back again, and again!!!.

Room Tip: Third floor was quieter, and very sunny!

We have been coming to this restaurant for years and for the most part, enjoyed very good meals. However, last week that was not the case. To be brief, my entree was pasta with lump crabmeat and mushrooms. It was tasty but there were only a couple of very small pieces of crab. My husband ordered a Caesar salad appetizer with a request for anchovies. The salad was served without them by one of the bus boys. When our waiter finally came around and we asked about the anchovies he said rather sarcastically, "the kitchen is out of them." Later, when my husband had almost finished his salad, he came by with two anchovies on a plate. His sarcastic attitude continued for the duration of our time there. Perhaps there has been a change in the kitchen because the food just doesn't seem as good as it was. We are lucky to have a lot of good restaurants to choose from so I don't think we will be going back to Water's Edge anytime soon.

I was very surprised at how mediocre the spa was run. I have been to many day spas and always wanted to try the water's edge spa. I went there today for a pedicure and my friend had a massage. I put on a robe to be more relaxed and enjoy my experience, but it was too thick and heavy and uncomfortable. The "relaxation room" was small and had a keurig coffee maker, a water cooler and table with a bowl of dirty fruit in it. Really, the fruit had not been washed and the apples had stickers still. The room had not been dusted in quite a while. Once in the pedicure salon, I was told to pick a polish color and all they had was Essie brand... Where was the OPI? The polish was in a crowded dark corner so I had to hold each color up to the light to see it better. My pedicurist seemed in a hurry to start. The massage chair didn't work also. Once started she rushed through each step and the experience was not relaxing at all. I have had better pedicures for half the price I paid today. Overall I wouldn't go back there.

We've just returned from a three night stay at water's edge.
We took advantage of a web special to celebrate our 40th anniversary.
The water's edge is a beautiful resort located on the Connecticut coast of Long Island.
Upon arrival the staff was immediately available and courteous. Check in was a breeze. We were even offered an upgrade to our room.
Our room was clean and spacious.
On-site dining was also very good.
The only drawback would be access to the pool and beach requires that you walk up a fairly steep hill to return to the resort. Not a problem for us, but it might be for others.

The resort has a great location and gorgeous grounds. If the service was more attentive at the pool bar (ie they need more than 1 or 2 waitresses), if the pool had a lifeguard and cleaner rooms and restrooms, it could be 5 star easily. Unfortunately there are those bad apples regarding service like the sunset bar manager woman but then you get wonderful offsets like Alexis at reception and great employees such as Michael, Ryan and Wilmer for breakfast! When we arrived there was no explanation of the grounds nor of daily activities nor of local area activities. We had to keep asking until we found a person with knowledge - Alexis!!. After a couple of days of figuring things out on our own, we had a good time. They had activities for the kids by the beach which were great and should be part of a welcome package or there should be a daily activity sheet sent to the rooms. To wrap it up, management needs to reassess the number of employees and to pay closer attention to details such as more waitresses and waiters at outside bars and a concierge with a welcome package! Our room was a great size for 4 people. Unfortunately, the room smelled like smoke even though nonsmoking room. When we notified the front desk they offered to move us. We suggest a day or 2 at Mystic to see the seaport and aquarium. A must stop for eats are the Griswald inn and Gabriella's.
