“Hands down the only place for Fried Clams”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

This little place is literally the best fried clams I have ever eaten. Every time I get them from other places in my travels I am disappointingly reminded that it is not Stowe's! Great view from this place also and prices are extremely reasonable!

“Good local spot”

Small place, decent food, better than Cicks down the street...standard New England road side seafood shack, but sometimes in the summer thats all you really want

“Lobster Roll Heaven!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

Stopped here with my daughter on our way to New Haven. It was our first time in the state, pouring rain, tired from 5 hr drive, and we got internet directions to this 'seafood restaurant'. I was quite disappointed AT FIRST, because it looked like a shack, only had 4 tables inside, and was more of a fish store than an eat-in place. But we ordered scallop dinners and squeezed in near the big pirate mannequin to eat. The coleslaw was barely edible (runny, Miracle Whip, not mayo), but those scallops were fabulous! Tender, juicy, perfect. Two days later I went back alone and found the place wasn't open til 11:30am. It was 10am but I wanted to try a lobster roll that everyone was raving about. Went back to Yale for a couple of hours then drove back to Stowe's, ordered that lobster roll and sat at the picnic table across the street from the beach. It was a beautiful day, made absolutely glorious by the roll--- lobster claw meat lightly sauteed, piled high HIGH in a barely toasted white top-loading bun. Tender, succulent and worth the $12.50 without sides. It was a meal I will never forget. (much to my family's dismay). Also had the scallop roll that day. Same tenderness, just a touch of breading, great seasoning, wonderful! (By the way, there are no restrooms, just a porta-john, so plan ahead.)

“Best fried fish in CT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013 via mobile

Maybe it's just because we can sit outside and eat right across the street from the water, but the seafood here tastes so delicious. Fried cod, salmon, swordfish, calamari and many other choices. The fish is good quality and fresh. I think they also use canola oil to fry. The service is quick and friendly, and while you wait you can enjoy the interesting pirate/ nautical decor inside.

I'm glad this restaurant is finally on TripAdvisor to review. We've been coming here for a long time and it is always a delicious treat!
