“Still wonderful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

It starts with the Whale and continues to surprise throughout the museum, including a great planetarium. You will enjoy it - the kids will love the animals and the "approachability" of the place.

“Needs a little TLC and more hands-on exhibits”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

About a year ago we checked out this museum with our 3 year old grandson and infant grand daughter. At the time they had the dinosaur exhibit. If it weren't for this exhibit, the museum would have been a real disappointment. This traveling dinosaur exhibit was the best, but it was only temporary. Many of the other hands-on exhibits were broken, and the animal exhibits were in sad shape too. A few years back I used to take my 3rd grade class to the museum where they would do in house science lessons, and the planetarium shows were good too. So unless you visit as a class trip, or go for a special exhibits, I would go to the new science center in Hartford instead.

“I wish I could rate this better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

I really wish I could give this place a better review - but I cannot.

The facility is shabby, dark, dingy and dated. There are many spaces that are shamefully put to no use whatsoever, and other areas that a mere new coat of paint alone cannot rectify. Missing is meaningful information, interactive exhibits throughout and 21st century learning tools. It is OK for a rainy day, when there is simply no other place to go, but it needs a several million dollar overhaul to become relevant and meaningful in this century. I sense that new leadership is a must to help this Children's Museum turn the corner it desperately needs to navigate.

If you want a GREAT science museum experience, go to the one in Hartford -- it is world class.

“Cute but dated.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

Very cute, but small. The building could use an overhaul. It's dated and a bit dingy. The people who work their are generally helpful and we've attended many children's birthday parties that the kids seem to love. It's worth a visit, but I'd hesitate on a membership.

“Nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

My kids had fun in the spaces that were built for pretend play. The smaller exhibits were okay, but definitely meant for older kids. They have a big area with lots of animals, but the cages seemed pretty small and the bobcat just paced back and forth the whole time we were there. Seemed a bit sad. Clean though, and the people were nice.
