An amazing property in beautiful Litchfield County, Connecticut, run by an amazing host, Regine LeVerge.
The setting is unrivaled; the views and property are memorable; and the Inn provides so many comforts in unexpected ways.
A true getaway -- yet so close to NYC

This B&B is magical. The house is beautiful - spacious and tasteful, with lovely comfortable furnishings. The setting is gorgeous! There is a long stone terrace that runs the length of the house, overlooking the "hidden valley" you can see in the photos - there are multiple seating areas, so you can take in the view during the day and the stars at night (candles and snuggling blanket provided). Regine, the hostess and owner, is warm, welcoming and wonderful - easy to talk to and eager to insure your comfort. The breakfast is scrumptious and ample - yogurt, fresh fruit, muesli, an egg dish (baked eggs are a house specialty), bacon, croissants and jam, coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. (Needless to say, we didn't need lunch.) The rooms are a delight, with lovely linens and towels and robes, and many kinds of soap to sample. Our two night stay was an absolutely lovely experience. We felt pampered, peaceful and completely relaxed. We were there in late summer - I'd love to come back in all the different seasons.

The area has lots to recommend it. Easily accessible: hiking, boating, biking, antiquing. Close to historic Litchfield (we followed the self-guided walking tour of historic homes, with the tourist info map - very worthwhile). And the B&B is close to a number of very good - some outstanding - restaurants (ask Regine for recommendations).

We absolutely loved this B&B and the hospitality of the owner/hostess Regine. The "Hidden" in the name is appropriate, as it is tucked far down a wooded driveway off route 47. This sets the perfect mood for the country estate feel that awaits when you emerge from the forest. While on the driveway, returning from dinner at one of the absolutely fantastic local restaurants Regine recommended, we encountered two barred owls. They flew within feet of our (thankfully) slow-moving car to land on branches not ten feet from us. We stayed and observed them for almost a minute in the dusky light before they flew off. If you're a birdwatcher, the expansive stone patio offers numerous comfortable chairs and lounges for viewing bluebirds, bluejays, hummingbirds and the ubiquitous robins (one of which was nesting just feet from the outdoor dining table), just to name a few.
Breakfast was very generous and delicious. There were fresh berries, a variety of yogurts and muslix, followed by hot croissants and toast and expertly prepared eggs. We stayed two nights, and so enjoyed omelettes and baked eggs (which were new to me but fantastic, infused with fresh herbs and cheese). You can see from their web site how beautiful the rooms look, so I won't go into that here.

One thing to consider; we have a small (9 lb) dog who was made to feel very welcome here. Regine has two small dogs who live here, and because the yard is so expansive, they can all spend their time off-leash. So if you are allergic to dogs or afraid of even cute, friendly critters, this might be a problem for you. Otherwise, it is a huge plus. No worries: there is no after-hours barking or any other "evidence" that dogs are in the area. This B&B has become a new favorite, and we'll be going back.

Divine. You feel as if you have escaped to the hills of Holland or Burgandy. The house is exquiste as is the taste and decor. This is gem for the discerning traveler who needs a break from urban life and wants to have a romantic escapade to Europe--all within 2 hours of NYC. The grounds are lavish and completely private. Mornings start with symphony of bird calls, followed by a gourmet breakfast with local farm eggs, crossiants, fresh jam all served with china and silver fit for royalty. Regine, the owner is a gem--she a pure delight. Anyone who is lucky enough to stay at Hidden Valley will have a trip to remember.

My dear friend Beth and I visited the B&B on May 8/9 this year (2011) to get out of NYC and get some country air. We love Connecticut and that area along the R 202 is particularly beautiful. The accomodation is very well laid out and one feels immediately at home. The hostess is most charming and stands ready to give you tips and ideas to consider. The surrounding areas offer lots of out door activities and there are quite a few quaint little towns (New Preston, Bantam, and Washington) with shops and restaurants. In short, although it is not that far from New York City, one feels miles away from city life. In short, Hidden Valley is a wonderful, peaceful destination where one can come to relax.

You'll really be treating yourself if you stay at this BnB. Refine is a lovely and gracious host and was very accommodating with our party of four who fell in love with the ace straight away and were distressed we had only booked one night!

The house and surrounds need at least a few nights to appreciate and Regine makes it all wonderful and tops it off with good coffee and great breakfasts. Her two dogs were gorgeous too. :)
