I stayed in Samonas during christmass holidays. Very nice houses, fully equipped with a traditional atmosphere . I loved the fireplace, the small cellar and the gym - sauna area. Would love to come back some time!

We stayed in 'sage' house (4) for five nights in May. The first thing that struck me was the wonderful colours. Blue sky, mellow stone, pink oleander, intense bougainvillea. The the smells. Jasmine, honeysuckle, herbs. Wonderful. The house had everything we needed and more. Courtyard with outdoor furniture, covered balcony for the morning sun and a lovely rooftop terrace for sundowners. Girgeous swimming pool and though we didn't have the energy for the gym it is there if you want it. Beautiful linen and toiletries. Konstantinos was great with touches such as ice cold water with a traditional cretan sweet,a lovely carrot and lemon jelly, and herbs to make sage tea. The attention to detail was superb. The little cafenion stocks everything you would need on a day to day basis but take your own fresh fruit and salads. Just lovely!

My partner & I stayed in #3 for 10 nights at the end of September and to be honest there’s not a lot I can say that hasn’t already been said. I can see Samonas may not suit everyone as it’s not in walking distance to everything but we loved it. Konstantinos was a wonderful host and has really thought through everything from the toiletries provided… toothbrushes, slippers, sponges, shampoo and lots more, to washing-up liquid & tea towels in the kitchen. He helped us when we had a problem with the hire car and let us stay well past check-out time on our last day at no charge. Would we go back? In a heartbeat.
Photos to follow when the hire car company returns my camera!

Room Tip: #3 is the only one where cases don't have to be lugged up steps but the bedroom (net type curtai...

Very nice houses, each with varied and nicely furnished and fully equipped. Konstantinos best hosts, helpful and attentive. Recommended breakfast, Eva makes every day different breakfeast form local ingredients. Although the beach about 15-20 miles, you want to book here, because of perfect peace and quiet surrounds. Konstantinos worth listening to is the selection of tavernas and the beach.

Room Tip: My favourite is the Faskomilia. It's got own roof terrace.Ask breakfast.

So this was our fourth visit to Samonas, and as projected, we stayed over a week this time. It just keeps calling us back! Konstantinos is so helpful with everything and we really feel at home there now. Even the drive up the windy road just seems like part of the fun. We got to meet the other nice folks staying there at a barbeque hosted by Konstantinos. The food was all excellent, traditional Cretan food. He even prepared a special dessert - orange pie, that he had tracked down the recipe to from the local taverna where we had eaten it earlier in the week. He just goes the extra mile to please his guests. It's just such a great getaway - I'm sure there will be a fifth visit soon!

Room Tip: Check out the photos, but they are all excellent, with great verandas to relax and watch the mountai...

A beautiful oasis of calm away from the "all-inclusive" hotels near the beach. The place is tranquil and both the scenery and the villas are beautiful. The villas themselves contain everything a traveller or a holiday maker may desire and are specious, beautifully decorated and rustic. The breakfast is delicious and the owner, Konstantinos, does everything in his power to make the stay enjoyable and memorable. We have been in Samonas for 7 nights with our 2 little kids and they enjoyed the villas and the pool immensely. Chania and excellent beaches are not far away and most villages in the vicinity are worth a visit. Only cons are the winding road up the hill which have seen better days and is narrow in places. Another con is that the stairs inside the villas (at least in #3 where we stayed) have no railings so you have to look out for the kids. This is nitpicking though as Samonas is truly the place to stay if you are considering a vacation in western Crete. Highly recommended!

This aparthotel is a true little paradise on earth, shaped by its kind and generous owner Konstantinos Giannoulakis. The rooms and buildings have very many interesting traditional details. Here you can enjoy all the luxury you are used to (and more), in a romantic setting you have never seen before. Simply stunning. Everything positive that has been written in earlier reviews about this idyllic place is true. This hotel is wonderful : 6 stars out of 5.
