This was not my first visit to Soltoro. I've been before and had excellent food and drinks.
My friend and I decided to eat here while at the casino on a Saturday night. We made a reservation and came back later on. The hostess was friendly and we were seated immediately.
Our server's name was Josh. He was friendly, but not very prompt. As long as the food was good, this was something we would have overlooked.
We ordered drinks, water and appetizers. I went with the shrimp ceviche and my friend ordered the chicken taquitos. The ceviche I've had at Soltoro in the past was excellent, but what I had this time was not very good at all. Just bland and unappealing. My friend asked me to try her taquitos. They were on the strange side. The chicken was so mushy it could have been tuna. Just not very good.
All this time, and Josh had still not returned with our drinks. A runner had brought our apps out to us. When Josh did return with our entrees - Pork Belly Tacos and Filet Mignon Quesadilla with a side of spicy fries - he asked if there was anything else we needed. We replied "our drinks". He went to get them, and when he returned you could tell they had been sitting there on the bar that entire time. My frozen (whatever it was) was quite melted by that time and the ice in my friend's Sangria had also melted. Josh volunteered to "pay for" my drink. When I commented on something else, he said "Well, at least you are getting a free drink!". Okay, a good server would have had two new drinks made up.
So the Pork Belly tacos were nothing special. And the Filet Mignon in the Quesadilla was so overcooked that you really couldn't tell what cut of beef it was. It could have been stew meat for all we knew.
My friend had me try her Sangria. It was just white wine that had a few pieces of fruit tossed in. You could tell that none of the flavors had mixed. Not a Sangria at all.
Overall the experience was disappointing. Especially after having had such a good experience on previous visits. It seemed that the menu had changed since the last time I'd gone, too.
I will not be returning.
Originally, my restaurant choice for that night had been Bar Americain upstairs. My friend said she did not see anything on their menu that appealed to her. After eating at Soltoro, she said she wished she had looked harder. ;-)
