Service begins daily at 11:30am, and the kitchen stays open late on performance evenings for after-theatre dining. Select from crisp salads and hot soups, creative Small Plates, Perfect Burgers of hand formed Angus patties on house-baked rolls, popular sandwiches, and Big Plate comfort favorites. House-made desserts are a specialty. The antique mahogany bar soars 14 feet above the trendy zinc counter, and presides over northwest Connecticut's largest offering of craft-brewed beers. 24 brands are available on tap, with the bottle selection at more than 70. The well-rounded wine list is popularly priced, with several wines offered by the glass. Customer service is a passion at Backstage. Servers and bartenders serve up our unique "Awesome Customer Service," and management is visibly present during all meals.

“Loved It There”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2011

My wife and I had dinner here on December 17th, We enjoyed everything about the restaurant. The welcoming, food, service and atmosphere were all just right. The restaurant was designed and is managed by Bob DiZinno, Connecticut's most knowledgable retaurateur. His touches are everywhere and the dining experience is so enjoyable. This was our first visit. The bar room with the fantastic zinc bar is more lively than the dining room. Our server was as nice as can be. The menu focuses on comfort foods and everything is made from scratch. Local farms and companies like Nodine's feature prominently on the menu. Though my wife and I "just" had burgers, they were great! Care goes into the preparation and presentation of the food and it shows! Drinks are superb. My wife's "Candy Cane-tini" was creative and delicious. This is definitely a restaurant we will return to again and again.

“Finally something gourmet/contemporary in Torrington!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2011

We've eaten here 3 times since the new owners took over and we are just so happy its here. It is casual dining but yet has just the right upscale edge to it. My favorite is the lobster pot pie, my husband says the fish and chips, but maybe the burgers. And dozens of beer on tap. I'm not exactly sure what they changed in the decor from the origiinal owners, but for some reason it seems more inviting. It may be the lighting or the way the tables are placed, but its definitely an improvement.
I'm THRILLED something in my hometown deserves a TripAdvisor review, up until now I never bothered, and I take these reviews very seriously since we plan all our trips through this website.

“Great for Pre-Show Meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2011

Backstage is located adjacent to the Warner Theater and Nutmeg Conservatory in downtown. We enjoyed appetizers there one evening (excellent crabcakes). Another night, we had dinner and enjoyed the Mac & Cheese, Italiano Chicken Sandwich, and Backstage version of the grilled cheese. All were very good and atmosphere was contemporary casual.
