“Awesome Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in room 17, the annex building. The view was not great in this room, but the beauty, size and cleanliness of the room more than made up for that. The bathroom was also well equipped, huge with a jacuzzi tub and large shower. In the main building the lobby, living room and bar were very cozy and there was a nice deck off of the living area.
It was quiet and located in the heart of Stonington, which was just a lovely place. The staff was more than helpful and all pleasant to talk to. We were able to see the adjacent towns and get back to Stonington in time for a rest, then back out to dinner. Great restaurants here....all within walking distance. Overall, a great place to stay....loved it!

Room Tip: Annex building is very quiet with large rooms and baths.

My girlfriend and I (we are in our late 20s) stayed here for a night in room 12. Corner room, spacious with a jacuzzi tub. Added a bottle of wine and it turned into the most luxurious stay of our trip to New England. I will recommend to everyone! Very cozy. Extremely clean!!!! I come from a family of clean freaks and they all would be very comfortable here. I was very impressed. The Ritz Carlton and Omni Resorts can't compete with this. We were even escorted to our room and given a tour when we checked in. Very very nice people!

the inn at stonington is the most beautiful place to stay. the view is to die for and the people who run it are the best anywhere. it is super clean and they have a great continental breakfast with a wine and cheese time at night. it is close to mystic seaport and lots of wine place to go to. they have off street parking which is nice. you will never be sorry you stayed her.

Room Tip: ask for the ocean view

We recently stayed here for 2 nights. We had to change rooms after one night, which I was happy to do, as I wanted to experience the ambiance of another room...both so lovely, and the bathrooms are large and showers are wonderful...We had seaside rooms and the view was spectacular. Our only suggestion about the rooms would be to have disposable cups in the bathrooms. As far the breakfast goes, it was barely acceptable for a Select Registry property. To get coffee, one has to go to the bar area and be served by the person doing breakfast that morning, who can be busy doing other things at that moment. if breakfast is self serve, which it is, the coffee should be out where it is accessible to serve yourself. We found the items to be ok. but did not Wow us.
One other quick comment. The main floor bathroom for guest use should not have a cotton towel to dry your hands with...the same one that everyone uses????

Having said this...we will be returning...soon. we also found most of the staff very amiable. Dori checked us in...very pleasant, and Susan served the wine and cheese the night we were there and we had a very nice conversation with her. Also the person who took care of our room transferring our luggage from one to the other ..he was very nice.....

Room Tip: room number 5,7,11 and 1

Thank you for pointing out many of the great things about our inn and Stonington. We think your disposable bathroom cup idea is great! We look forward to seeing you again.

My husband and i recently returned from a visit to the east coast. We were fortunate enough to have reserved a room at the Inn at Stonington for the first night of our trip. Our room was charming, very clean and very quiet. Because we had a change in our travel itinerary, we decided to return to the Inn at Stonington two days later. We had a different room for that night, but it was also very clean, very charming and again very quiet. We loved sitting around the table outside during cocktail hour with the other guests who were also staying there, and getting to know them and where they were from. We cannot say enough about the friendliness of the staff, and what a wonderful experience it was to discover Stonington.

Room Tip: They are all good!

This inn (larger than a B&B, more like a very small hotel) is ideally located in the heart of the charming Borough of Stonington, an ideal venue for exploring the Eastern Connecticut/Western Rhode Island coast from New London to Point Judith. It affords a quiet place to rest and explore, even for a day trip to Block Island or Mystic Seaport. The decor and furnishings demonstrate the loving care of the owners, although the carpets in the annex and our room (#17 in the annex) seem a bit worn. The room itself was charming and large, with a gas fireplace, high ceilings, and a huge bathroom. The included 'continental' breakfast was much more than we expected: juices, coffee, muffins, pastries, hard-boiled eggs, cereals, fresh fruit, etc. However, it was the service and friendly, helpful staff that made our stay so special. Our check-in was swift, but rather business-like and perfunctory. Every interaction with staff after that was exceptional. Everyone made us feel comfortable and were very knowledgable about the local scene (sights, directions, restaurants, ferries, etc.). How good is the staff? On our first morning, during breakfast, we heard a guest ask for a banana, which they did not have. The hostess/server (I wish I had her name) insisted on running down the street to get one - and did! Wow.

We were there Friday and Saturday nights for a nearby wedding. The staff was friendly, helpful and available. The Inn looks colonial, but is too well laid out and spotless to be so. The basement workout room is larger and better equipped than you will find in a 70 room Hampton, much less in a small inn. We intentionally did not pick the more expensive larger harbor view rooms -- our smaller second floor room (no. 6) was both quiet and had a fabulous large bath with a walk in shower larger than you would find in a Ritz Carlton. For me, a smaller room with a bathroom large enough to change into workout clothes and spread out without disturbing my wife is great. Breakfast was very good and you'll be ready for it after smelling rolls baking as you walk in the front door the night before. The common area and deck with harbor view look as nice as the web-site photos. We had no trouble parking. The surrounding area is lovely and very walkable.
