“Quirky but interesting.”

Quirky why? Well, the hotel restaurant has two names, as though someone can't quite decide which one to use. The Indian food from one of its incarnations was actually very good, but you can also have American food. The barman likes to exchange first names and get guests talking to each other and to him; he also has advanced degrees and has traveled all over the world. The garage has 3 levels with each level served by its own road, no travel between levels inside the garage-took me a while to figure out that one.
Otherwise, rooms are nice, beds are OK (though I hate duvets without a top sheet, why should you have to ask to get a sheet to sleep under?), and included breakfast is so-so. Hotel overlooks a fairly new riverine park and neighborhood seems O.K., but be aware that it used to be sketchy and You probably still don't want to stroll it after dark.

For such an expensive price I expect more. Several problems particular to my stay (smelly room with a sink that leaked and caused a soggy carpet/flood--not relocated), very difficult to send a shirt out for laundering and get it back, overworked morning staff. Overall pleasant place with great local shuttle service but breakfast is dreary with few to no healthy alternatives.

I am so sorry you found your guest room unacceptable. Our housekeepers work very hard to keep our guest rooms clean and an unacceptable guest room is not the standard at our hotel. We were on our way to Vermont and got a late start so we decided to stay at this Hampton Inn because it was on our way. First off the exterior is very nice and it is located right next to the downtown area. We initially missed the street it was on and drove down the street behind it, only to find out the street next to it is one way. Just be mindful of that. The parking is free, but the garage is small, so keep that in mind if you are in an RV or something larger than a pickup truck or large suv. We had to occupy two spaces in order to fit in the garage. There is uncovered parking, but it is only for two hours at a time because a restaurant is attached to the side of the hotel.

We are currently silver Hilton Honors members and the hotel did not provide any benefits for our status (as most Hilton do not for silver). We assumed because the Hampton Inns will rarely ever get Gold or Diamond customers they might be a little more generous for the Silver customers, but no. The front desk attendant told my wife that the only benefit she gets is, "looking forward to becoming Gold!"

The room itself was average. The counter surrounding our sink basin was dirty; old soap and shampoo was stuck to the surface. Because it was midnight when we arrived, I did not really care since we just needed a bed to sleep in. When we got settled down we noticed that it was kind of warm in the room, so we attempted to adjust the thermostat, but it was already set to 50 degrees. After trying to lay down for a while my wife and daughter complained that it felt really hot and muggy, so I checked the thermostat again and the temperature in the room was steadily rising. It was 78 degrees and climbing.

I called down to the desk and the attendant informed me on how to operate the thermostat. I of course responded that I am not an idiot, it is already set to as cold as it can get, but that the temp is rising in the room. He then offered to change our room or send a maintenance man to check it out. Being already settled we opted for the maintenance man. The front desk attendant called us back and said that there was nothing the maintenance man could do except bring a fan. So we slept with a rotating fan near our front door. That did the trick, but our sleep was restless and noisy.

The following day another guest in the elevator said she had the same problem and I said obviously they have an issue at the hotel. Breakfast was the usual fare. It was nothing special. When we checked out, the front desk attendant asked us how our stay was and I informed her about the heat issue. She apologized and reduced our rate by 24 dollars as a good will gesture which is nice I guess. It was the offer that counted.

Next time we happen to be in the area we will be staying at the Hilton which is close by. It was the same rate as the hampton, but charges for parking.

Very nice place to stay. Hotel is clean parking and internet was free and the morning breakfast was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you spend anytime in restaurant or bar you will enjoy the service and food very much.

Beautiful Property, friendly and very helpful staff. The front desk associate was very friendly, although I was at the wrong hotel, he made me feel very welcome and did all he could to accommodate my family and me.

The Hampton Inn turned out to be an excellent choice for my family's stay in Dowtown Stamford. It was also very affordable. Parking, breakfast, fresh coffee, an extra roll-away bed and wifi were available at no added cost. The location is great. It's located just one block from downtown, across from a small park, on the border of a prospering residential area. As the result, I had all the advantages of an in-city hotel, but none of the disadvantages. I got to see grass and trees instead of cars and asphalt. The rooms were clean and well maintained. It was also quieter, another plus. The only weak points were no pool and rubbery scrambled eggs in an otherwise good complementary breakfast.

Got in late due to I-95 mess. Check-in fast, parking good, night clerk was new, so did not know of any place to go, though he was very nice. Did not see anyone walking the streets(after 11pm), so stayed in for the night. NO FAN IN THE BATHROOM? Anyway, good "free" breakfast!
