The other reviewer said it perfectly. If you need a place to sleep with easy access to to I 84 - this is a good choice. It's not a "fun" hotel for a family with kids who need to be entertained... but it was very clean and you can't beat the cost.
My biggest trouble was finding the place because the highway frontage has a Denny's and Starbucks blocking the Motel 6 sign. My room was on the 2nd level on the inside of the courtyard. If I had been on the outside (nearest to I84) I think the highway traffic might have bothered me because I like it silent at night.
Hotel Staff was curteous - and oddly enough ... the toilet paper was much better quality than the following 2 nights of my business trip in a $250 room (which my company paid for!!!) LOL I thought that was the funniest thing.
No hairdryers here - only a bar of soap in the bath and 2 small towels - but it's a great deal at $42 a night!
I needed a place to stay for the night because I was moving. I chose the Motel 6 because it was the cleanest inexpensive hotel on Queen Street. The room was okay for sleeping in, but not much else. First the front desk clerk (who was very friendly. He told me he had seen me a few times working at the local supermarket) was telling another guest the vending machines weren't working. When I got to my room, the electrical outlets in the room didn't work very well. My cell phone charger and clock radio both fit into the outlets very loosely. I had to jiggle them to get them to work. Also the TV only had 19 channel. 2 of them were unwatchable! FOX was very snowy and the other was a foreign language channel. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet. The shower worked well too. After I showered and got dressed I noticed on my receipt that I was charged for 2 adults when I was staying by myself. (That must've been why they gave me a room with 2 beds). The clerk on duty when I check out refunded me the $6 that was incorrectly charged to me for an extra adult, which I was happy about.
I had never stayed at a Motel 6 before, but after reading some of the recent reviews of the Motel 6 in Southington CT, thought I'd give it a try. The motel is right off I-84 and has easy access off/ on to the main InterState highway. Wow, what a bargain -- for only $43.99 + tax, I got a clean, comfortable room and they allow pets at no extra charge! The bathroom and sink areas are very clean. They provide soap and 2 sets of thin white towels. The carpet had been vacuumed and I checked under the beds for nasties (didn't find anything strange). The walls are freshly painted white stucco-texture and there are no marks or holes on the walls. The mattresses (I got a Queen double) are a softer than I am used to but not bad. I did call the front desk and was told all the mattress are like this, so apparently the mattresses were not changed in the make-over. The heating system worked fine as well as the shower. The TV and remote both were fine.
This Motel 6 decor could be described as a stripped-down "Red Roof Lite" since the parent company (Ancor) owns both hotel chains. If you can live without a few of the ameneties of a Red Roof or higher priced chain, this Motel 6 is for you. For example, there are no drawers in the desk, just cubbies for belongings. There are no alarm clocks or radios in the room, and there is just one phone on the nightstand (local calls are free). They do wake-up calls. The desk lacks a desk lamp or extra phone; however, there is an RJ-45 phone jack available. There are no pictures on the walls, and you can forget about a room with a microwave or fridge.
That being said, this place is within walking distance to a MacDonalds, Taco Bell, Denny's, DeAngelos, etc. The surrounding grounds are littered with some trash and are mediocre for dog walking, but OK for one or two nights. I stayed on a ground floor room and the walls are rather thin, so I heard some late night party-goers around 2 a.m. Bring your own ear plugs and alarm clock.
So if you're looking for a decent, clean place to stay between Hartford and New Haven, this is the best value in CT!
After 1 awful night at the Howard Johnson's Express across the street, the newly rennovated Motel 6 was a wonderful change. I think we paid $49 per night and were very pleased. The room was very clean, as it was newly outfitted. The room is small, but if you need a place to sleep, consider this motel. We weren't on vacation, but rather needed a place to sleep as we were in the midst of moving.
This is hardly a tourist destination, but it's extremely convenient to I-84.
