“Had a great weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

My boyfriend and I traveled to the Heritage Hotel for a family graduation party. The staff is friendly, the food was good & there is a lot of great banquet space. We planned to stay over Friday night, so got up Saturday morning, checked out of our room and spent the day by the pool and golfed in the afternoon (there are locker rooms with showers near the pool so you can shower/change even if you have checked out). The outdoor pool has a little grill & bar that opens for lunch so we enjoyed a few drinks at the bar and burgers for lunch. The golf course is nice & you receive a discount if you are a hotel guest. We had so much fun Saturday, we decided we should stay another night and make a weekend out of it. We went to the front desk and were able to secure one of the few rooms left. Overall, a good place. The pub stays open until 2AM (rare for a hotel), the rooms are cozy and feel more like a house than a hotel, they aren't brand new but we found them to be clean & comfortable and have HUGE TVs given the size of the room. A few cons, definitely noise is a concern the walls/doors are thin so you can hear everyone who walks down the hall. This wasn't a problem for us as we wake up early but not a good place to sleep in. Also, you can buy a membership to the pool/gym so there a lot of families from the area that frequent the pool. Saturday wasn't as busy but on Sunday we encountered a lot of splashing children in the pool - not ideal but it didn't ruin the day. Just beware you will not be alone at the pool. Also -a tip that isn't well advertised, the hotel is pet friendly, there are a few rooms on the 1st floor that allow dogs, I know there is a small extra fee.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor - they have vaulted ceilings. The sun rises at the back of the hotel...

well i guess there are not too many wedding reception destinations in southbury CT so Heritage is all there is and everyone has their event here. first of all lets be clear, i am typically a 5 star hotel frequenter so my opinion is skewed. typical resort, nothing special, they said robes and spa on the website so i figured how bad could it be. no robes to be found and spa is ok, prices same as high-end luxury spas so why would i spend the $$ here in a place that is just so so. first night must have been all the rehearsal dinners because we were woken by loud voices and running up and down hall both night and morning. second night we returned to the hotel and walked into 2 fist fights by drunken wedding attendees...scarey. then at 3a we were woken by fire alarm...no communications whatsoever from anyone who worked at hotel. we finally returned to our bed after 1 hr standing inparking lot no knowing what was going on. next morning a police offer standing in lobby i guess to monitor more wedding attendees...we tried to take a walk around property but no one could tell us how to get to a single trail...your typical place, nothing great, but very eventful. next time it think we'll try to stay at a nice bed and breakfast. geez!

Room Tip: ask for quiet one! if that is possible in this place

Dear cmCSH,

We could not be more apologetic about the events you and other guests experienced at our hotel last weekend. We are well known for providing our weekend guests with a relaxing, enjoyable resort environment with personal, friendly New England service. A few people with an in-house wedding group last weekend behaved in a manner that showed complete disregard for our guests and our hotel. The fire alarm in the middle of the night was the result of this behavior. It is totally out of character for an event like this to occur at our hotel and we deeply regret the inconvenience that you and others experienced. We hope you will consider giving us another opportunity to offer our usual relaxing and friendly services during a future visit to our area.

The Heritage Hotel is a beautiful, relaxing place! I've enjoyed both a romantic visit with my husband, and (on a different visit!) a weekend-long family reunion, and I had a great stay both times. My family enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pools, the raquetball courts and the health club. My kids loved swimming and also enjoyed the organized activities. We were very pleased with the food, both at the lovely restaurant and having snacks and drinks by the pool. Our rooms were large and clean, and the staff at the hotel were really nice and helpful. I hope I can get back there soon!

Room Tip: See if you can get one of the suites

If you are like me, the best thing a business can do, even before offering a good product, is to provide excellent customer service. The Heritage goes above and beyond in this category. Each employee you come in contact with possess a certain eagerness to please their guests that stays consistent throughout your stay. This is the third year in a row that we have spent father's day at the Heritage and it was great the first year and only seems to be getting progressively better. There are constant renovations to the decor and rooms. This year we noticed that they upgraded to nice big flat screen high def TVs in our rooms. Some of our favorite things to do at the Heritage are play ping pong in the family common area, play golf at the on campus course, swim in the large indoor pool, and every now and then try our hand at racquetball. We usually spend one of the night in the hotel bar/grill where they offer a classy atmosphere and two professional pool tables (free for bar patrons). One of the best things is that once you check in, you really don't have to leave because the Heritage is located around a deli, Friendly's, liquor store, golf course, bar/grill, and more recreation than an active person can handle. I HIGHLY recommend the Heritage and will be looking forward to my next stay. Lastly I want to point out that The Heritage is located in a very nice area and town, Sotuhbury. There is shopping, Starbucks, grocery stores, restaurants all within a couple miles.

We celebrated my father's 90th birthday with a weekend at this hotel. We found the rooms clean and spacious, the staff courteous and helpful & the hotel facilities excellent. Since it was summer, the pools were a big hit with the children. My wife and I used the gym, which was adequate for our purposes.
We found the arrangements that we had made worked very well. Whenever we had any questions or concerns, the staff was right there to help. They also went out of their way to make this special weekend a memorable one.
I would stay here again in a second, and would recommend it to anyone for a weekend get-away or a family trip.

Overall a great hotel. Very clean, and much bigger than I expected. Was very comfortable and the staff great. Only little gotcha was the ceilings and walls seemed a little thin and if you have noisy neighbors, this might be a problem.

Restaurant is more of a pub, which is not bad, but selection could be better. They go from $10+ pub burgers to $25+ steak with not much in between. It says something when people stare at a menu and all wind up with bacon cheeseburgers.

Internet was flaky. Could get to yahoo, but not google. Not sure if was too many people or what, but to check my gmail account, I had to use my phone instead of my laptop. Free may not always be better I guess.
