“Not quite 5*”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

We had a very nice and large room, but the price was too high for the area and the amenities. The staff were fine, the restaurant was quite good. The room was well equiped and well furnished with a couch, fireplace, desk, and large bathroom. We found the indoor pool area, which has a pool, steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi, to be in need of renovation. It looked really old. We will likely return and hope that they do some upgrades because the hotel has the potential to be 5*.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view room.

Stayed one night with a group visiting the New England area. The rooms were exceptionally well appointed and spacious. Breakfast was very good especially the sausages!! I plan on returning to this property in the future.

Room Tip: We overlooked the marina and had a spectacular view of the sunrise from our balcony!

Continued upgrades, casual elegance, predictable quality great service and pet friendly make the Saybrook Point Inn a place we keep coming back to -- this is year 15! In addition to the room and bathroom upgrades that add comfort and sparkle, the outside grounds have not been neglected. New water feature near the gazebo and beautiful landscaping surround the main entrance signage and road front. Attentive staff but not intrusive. New van service and enhanced restaurant and spa will enhaance the experience for many. Pet friendly-- great park right across the street, and flexible dog policies along with welcome treats and bandana for the pup.

Room Tip: Courtyard-facing rooms .... have great sunrise views and on Friday and Saturday night wedding partie...

Thank you for great feedback. I'm not complaining but you rated each individual area a five but overall you gave us a four. I understand how that could be accurate but if it was not intended I wanted to make note of it. Thank you. Andy Abels

We stayed at the inn for four nights in Oct 2012 and loved it. Every member of the staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. Our room was a generous size with a wood fireplace and small balcony. It overlooked the entrance to the inn (and parking lot) with a view of the water in the distance (but not too far that it detracted from our enjoyment of the view). The room had a king bed, small loveseat and cocktail table, large dresser, large desk and a round table with two chairs. So there were many places to sit in addition to the bed, which is nice for a long stay.
The bathroom was enormous, with a long counter, two sinks and separate shower. The hall was nicely decorated and definitely more attention was given than typical 'hotel common space' decor.
There were so many other nice places to hang out outside of our room...the restaurant, the pool, several decks outside including a large firepit on one of the outdoor bars, so even though it was a little chilly, we could still be comfortable outside.
The pool had great hours, it is closed for a short time everyday for aqua classes but it opens so early (5am I think?), until 10pm that we still had plenty of time to swim everyday, and there is still the option of the heated outdoor pool or the hot tub while the indoor pool is in use.
The only things missing were a breakfast option. We also thought we smelled cigarette smoke in our room every night, which the staff said was probably a fireplace in another room (but was definitely another guest smoking...cigarettes smell a lot different than wood!). Other than that, we loved the place and would love to return.
The inn was more expensive than our typical vacation stay, so it was nice that there was so much to enjoy on-site and nearby.
The area nearby is really cute, and the hotel staff were always helpful giving suggestions for things to do in the area. There are free bikes to use, and a free shuttle. The people who work there all seem to enjoy doing what they do and ensuring their customers have a great stay. I'd recommend the Inn to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn over the weekend in October, using their spa package - 1 night, plus 2 treatments at the Spa plus breakfast. The greeting staff was amazing - very helpful, professional, smiles, etc. As we passed by the desk later in the day, the young woman at the desk remembered specific requests we made and call on us to make sure we received everything we wanted. The room was great, with antique furniture, spotless bathroom, fabulous bed. The dining in was perfect, quick, delicious. The spa therapist were pleasant and professional. The spa itself was shining, excellent design, great snacks and so forth. The pool was nice, so were the steam room and the sauna. The breakfast was delicious and all you can eat. The only few nits: the pool needs to be a little bit cooler, it was too warm and for this level of hotel and service I'd love to see some slippers to go with the robe, so guests could use them to go to the spa and/or swimming pool. Kudos to all the staff, well done. Also, I forgot my watch in the room and call them back. They found the watch immediately and I got it back right away - thank you.

A recent short trip to this beautiful place was just right for some quality time. A theatre visit to the Goodspeed Opera House (about 35 minutes drive away) completed our visit. The room we had was large, overlooking the Connecticut River, well furnished and with super comfortable triple sheeted queen beds with down pillows. The bathroom was equally large, with high quality amenities and bathrobes for use during the stay. The wall mounted large screen TV has basic cable channels, no premium nor movie channels. WiFi at no charge is in the whole building and needs no password, a time saver. Staff was friendly and helpful from reservations to front desk to dining room servers. The Spa looked very inviting and we'll treat ourselves on a next trip!

Room Tip: Go for the water view rooms!

My wife and I stayed at the Saybrook Point Inn in August. We won a one night stay at a Kitty Harbor fundraiser. The hotel is located on the waterfront in a very scenic area. Our checkin went smoothly, and our room was ready upon arrival. Our room was very spacious, clean, and very cozy. There was also a fireplace in the room. The bed was king size, and it was very comfortable. My wife and I found the entire staff cordial and helpful. We had dinner at the hotel's restaurant, the Fresh Salt Restaurant, where we found the food and service to be superb. There are ample parking spaces around the hotel. Overall, this hotel is a real gem, and we recommend it to anyone.
