“Good Martinis, Good Food, Good Service, Good River View, "High" Prices...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2014

We returned to Back Porch after being away from Connecticut for five or so months. We enjoyed the restaurant previously and we enjoyed it again. This visit we both had martinis (nicely made), split the house salad (quite ample), had filet mignons (cooked exactly to our order) and we split a hot fudge brownie ice cream (quite tasty) with coffee. Our server was very attentive and helpful -- she ensured that my wife received a five-olive dirty martini made to perfection! As before we enjoyed the river and marina activity. The menu prices seem high to me, but that's true of most restaurants...

Very nice bar on the water, with great service. Really enjoyed the place. Would be a great venue for any party, has lots of space and good wines.

“One of the worst places I have been to eat.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

Went to this place to meet and have dinner with friends. They had been there once before about a year ago. Copied below is an email exchange subsequent to this visit from friend and my response to it. Enough said..

"hi
thought back poarch restaraunt left a lot to be desired-
1.expensive
2.no butter for breadsticks-how did they get melted butter for lobster-???
3.lobster rolls were mostly all claws-dont like claws
4.music to loud-
dont think i will be going back-a lot better last year

still cant load adobe flash-but reading that big flaw exist-
microsoft recomends not using it till fixed-virus can attack-
oh well-maybe stop trying to load it for awhile-"

"I agree and then some on the Back “Outhouse” Restaurant!!!
Also – not in compliance with ADA Law for handicapped accessibility, I’m pretty sure.
Parking area full of boats in storage and potholes, not paved, no markings where to park....Just lousy, period.Never mind trying to cross the street to get to restaurant – it’s like the Indy 500 on that road - better be a good sprinter!"

This restaurant overlooks the CT River between the Baldwin bridge and the railroad bridge. Nice menu selection with musical entertainment.

“Good Place to Drink Outdoors in Summer, but Eat Elsewhere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014

This is a good place to drink but a mediocre (at best) place to eat. There is plenty of good, expensive beer both on tap and in bottles, and a decent -- though unremarkable -- dinner menu. They have a great bar and a very nice, open patio overlooking the Connecticut River, but the dining room is poorly arranged and a bit unwelcoming (as is the covered outdoor seating area, unfortunately). As unwelcoming as their dining room might be, their staff is really the low point of the entire operation: inattentive, somewhat discourteous, and poorly trained. If you go, go for the excellent bar and patio on a warm, summer evening. Again, the food is decent, but don't expect good customer service. If you go without expectations, you will not be disappointed.
