“Best hotel in the area.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2007

I actually live about an hour from this hotel and was visiting relatives. This is one of the newer hotels in the area. Very clean and affordable. Hotel staff were wonderful and helped us out with special requests. My husband has severe allergies and it is hard to find a hotel he can be comfortable in. This place was very nice..quiet area. easy to find. close to everything.

Dirty, worn and smelled like stale cigarettes. We thought that since it was a well known chain hotel that their standards would be higher but unfortunately that was not the case.
The bathroom tub had cigarette burns, the carpeting was stained and filthy. The pullout couch I didn't even dare sit on because of the stains and rips. The drapes also had several dirty stains. There was a drip of "something" on the wallpaper. My husband thought that it was a bubble in the wallpaper but it wasn't...disgusting!!!
I slept with my sweatshirt over the pillowcase.
We were only in the room for about 6 hours thank goodness!

This is one of a few hotels within 10 - 15 minutes from Mohegan Sun. It does quite a bit of business - and seems to just assume it's rooms will be filled. At $150 a night, and an mid-market all suites hotel - it seemed like a good deal. (Much better than the $540 a night Mohegan Sun Casino Resort was charging for a Saturday night stay.)

Wrong.

Do not let the nice architecture, lobby, pool and free waffles in the morning fool you.

The rooms in this place are about what you would expect to find on a roadside no-tell motel dive.

When we entered our first room I noticed both windows were open - being on the ground floor I tried to see if they would close. Nope - both windows were broken.

Next room.

Windows closed - but this smoking room smelled like an ashtray - and the fan and A/C were broken so we could not air it out while we were at the casino.

Coming back to a warm smoke stained room was a let down.

Now for you smokers - dont fret.
While the front desk person said "all rooms are now non-smoking", there was a dirty unwashed Comfort Suites ashtray on the bathroom counter when we entered.

Did not yet mention the cigarette burn hole in the curtain.

Or the dirty sock in the open closet space left by the last guests.
It matched the used matches tossed on the carpet.
Obviously the room had not been cleaned - and we arrived past the posted 3pm check in time.

The building is settling and the bathroom floor and stone entry step are cracked down the middle of the entire room. The settling has pulled the bathroom counter down and away from backsplash tiles. The curtain rod that is designed to be held on with four screws had two - and was falling off the wall.

A new towel rack had been installed, leaving two silver dollar size holes in the wall. No problem - they fixed them by covering them up with masking tape! Which actually matched the nicotine stained covered wallpaper. I only realized the wallpaper had once been white when I closed the bathroom door - there were patches of the original color behind the door.

The bedspreads reeked of cigarette smoke to the point that the sheets and pillows also reeked.

After all that you know that the fact that a child had written all over one wall went unnoticed by the management and cleaning crew.

There are closer places to Mohegan Sun that have to be nicer than this dump.

We stayed for one night in a king one bedroom suite with a jacuzzi. The room was clean, well organized, and both rooms were very large. We wished that we had booked more than one night. We took advantage of the shuttle service to Mohegan Sun. It was efficient, if a bit slow. We got a great rate of about $140. I've noticed that this room is often available at $200+. The only complaint is that like a lot of hotels in the area, the free breakfast ended too early.

We stayed at the Comfort Suites because both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods were completely booked. Our room was a bit run down, but clean. For instance, there was such a crack between the door and the door casing that you could see out into the hall.

The normal weekday rate was OK, but I don't believe the place was worth the weekend rack rate of $199/night. Next time we will stay at Mohegan Sun.

We travel quite a bit and this has to be one of the best hotels we have stayed at. It's in close proximity to both Foxwoods Casino and Mohegan Sun. It's location is on an extremely quiet side street and even though our window looked down onto the railroad tracks we heard no trains: I don't think the tracks are used anymore. They provide shuttle service to Mohegan Sun starting at 4 p.m. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, as a matter of fact I was inquiring at the desk about the availability of a microwave oven in the room and while the desk person was explaining that microwaves are only in rooms with hot tubs, another worker offered to bring a microwave to my room. The only negitive was having the exact same breakfast both mornings. Should have a little variety, like a different kind of eggs.
The Choice Hotel chain seems to be hit or miss. I stayed at the Quality Inn Suites in Orlando during the summer and my experience was the total opposite. I will be posting that review next.

A simple hotel that's clean and has spacious rooms. The AAA discount also helped. It's a very short ride to Mohegan Sun (which, if you don't take the shuttle, has plenty of parking). The hotel staff was extremely helpful in providing directions and maps for the short trip. Be aware, however, (if you drive) that there aren't a lot of highway signs for Mohegan Sun (which has nothing to do with the hotel). The breakfast was simple and sufficient. When we were there the pool was out of order which was disappointing. The exercise room is also very small. Still, we will stay there again since it's clean, spacious, quiet, comfortable, and inexpensive.
