Stayed here for one evening before running a half marathon in the area. The outside of the hotel is well kept and first impression was excellent. The lobby is newly updated and it has a very comfortable, modern and inviting feel to it. The front desk is of the pod style which I personally prefer and enjoy. The front desk rep who checked us in was very friendly and personable as well as recognized my silver elite status with Marriott. She was able to get us checked in early and as I had two rooms, she was able to place them directly across the hall from each other, as well as offer a late checkout of 1:00 PM (more on that later).
The room itself was adequate, but very average, a comfortable bed, but some of the furnishings and the carpet are beginning to show some signs of wear and tear. As I mentioned I had two rooms across the hall from each other, it was odd that one room had an un-stocked (which I prefer) mini fridge and a microwave and the other had neither. The room with the microwave and fridge was slightly larger as well.
We used the indoor hot tub and poll on the lower level and had it to ourselves. It was clean and average for a mid-range hotel's indoor pool, but a bit odd that the towels provided were laid over the pool chairs and there was only about a half dozen. While there was a basket to put used ones in, I didn't notice a stack of fresh ones, I just hope this is monitored throughout the day as I could see a larger group using all the towels and those coming after not having any.
Although the bed was comfortable, sleeping was a bit difficult due to the noise level. This is understandable for a "casino" hotel on the weekends with free shuttle service to Mohegan Sun, but there were other guests around us closing and opening their room doors and knocking on each other's door at all hours of the night. Not the hotel's fault, but seeing as I was on the first floor not too far from the main lobby, they must have heard them and could have stepped in.
We were up early, as I stated we were running a half marathon, and when we returned at 12:15 (planned to quickly shower and change after the race before driving home) we found that our room key no longer worked and we had been automatically checked out despite having a 1:00 PM check out. It wasn't a huge deal as we had friends staying an extra night there so we simply used there room, however I was annoyed that despite being told I could get a late checkout (which as a Marriott Rewards Elite Member, a request for a late check out is given preference to) the hotel checked us out automatically ahead of that time. I understand that housekeeping wants to get the rooms turned over, and it appeared we had left by looking at the empty room, but if a late checkout was specifically requested and given, housekeeping shouldn't be going there until after that time.
Then afterwards the Marriott Rewards didn't post automatically to my account, I had to fill out a missing stay request. Even after I submitted the request and provided the folio for both of the rooms, I was still only given the points for one of the rooms, and I had to call and have that adjusted as well.
It's all relatively minor issues, and I would consider staying there again, however, unlike most of the Marriott properties I've been to, I would look for other options in the area first.
If on the first floor, as for a room facing the highway (I know it sounds counter intuitive) as the...
