I saved my birthday 'day off' for the Spa at Norwich Inn. This is the place to spend the day - not an hour or two - but to take advantage of the day. I arrived in the morning and took a walk around the beautiful grounds to start my 'unwind' then worked out in their great exercise room with new-feeling, modern machines and weights. Then did the steam room before moving on to lunch at Kensington's. Excellent - try to get this included in a day package. I received two items and a beverage as part of the "Fall Indulgence" - which included the gratuity as well.
After lunch, and feeling stuffed - I had my first treatment - the Hearthside Massage with warm stones. I was assigned to Steve, and I normally prefer a man's strength - but Steven was a little too eratic with the strokes - shame on me for not asking him to slow down (but the stones just may have been too warm - again, my fault that I didn't say anything then.) After this I went outside for some sun and quiet reading. It was a warm, beautiful day and I had to move in or risk sunburn, so I read some more in the relaxation room, where throughout the day folks were actually napping.
I steamed again - which included eucalyptus scents - and then went to my express facial (which I should have actually done for an hour) which was the best part of the whole day. Kathy was phenomenal. I finished the afternoon with tea and scones, again part of the package. I didn't even have a chance to enjoy all of the amenities of the jacuzzi, pool, sauna or WINE TASTING. Once showered and relaxed, I went for my "exercise session" which was a belly dancing lesson. Although I thought that this would be very low impact - this by far this is the most fun I've had while exercising. I think my instructor was Sharon - and the hour flew and was so entertaining. Plus my abs KILLED for two days afterward and I work out pretty normally.
My only drawback (besides the somewhat eratic stone massage which I take responsbility for) - was the shower. This is my second visit to the spa - using a different shower than I did 18 months ago - and they are awful. Hard, brutal spray and I've soaked the entry way floor both times. Fortunately, this time I remembered to put every up high.
This "day spa" is really a destination for the day. Don't short change yourself with a few hours - take the day. You won't regret it.
