“Nice inn with lovely hosts!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

My husband surprised me with a night away for my birthday. It was a perfect getaway. Marco and Sheryl welcomed us into their home. They were the perfect hosts and felt like old friends. Location was convenient to the casino and the homemade breakfast didn't disappoint. The cinnamon buns were delicious. Our room was cozy and the little treats we found in our room were a nice surprise. We would definitely stay at the Lathrop Inn again when looking for an overnight getaway!

A beautifully restored historic home with warm and hospitable owners. Sheryl and Marco made us feel right at home and we very much enjoyed chatting with them beside the warmth of the fireplace. I very much enjoyed the much-needed gigantic cup of coffee in the morning and the cinnamon rolls were to die for! My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

We stayed at Lathrop Manor for one night, we had tickets to a show that night at Foxwoods. We were greeted warmly by Marco and Cheryl and shown our room, complete with a complimentary bottle of wine. The room had a four poster bed, adjacent bathroom with amenities, and waiting by the bedside table were three bite sized chocolates.

When we came back from dinner and the show, the bed had been turned down. Bed itself was amazing, we learned the next morning from Cheryl that the mattress is the same the Plaza uses. Heavenly.

Breakfast was the most fantastic part of our stay -- Marco was there when I came downstairs, brought out coffee for the two of us before breakfast. Cherly presented us with our three choices for breakfast - both of us chose eggs florentine which was beyond gourmet. Before the actual breakfast entree, we were presented with toasts, three types of cheeses and fresh fruit, including figs and raspberries. AND four warm cinnamon sticky rolls! Marco and Cheryl ended up sitting and chatting with us for breakfast, we sat and talked until nearly 10 am - they are a warm, interesting and down to earth couple -- they do a fantastic job running this truly memorable inn!!

Lathrop Manor is an authentic early 18th century home converted to a B&B. The rooms have antique plank floors and open beam ceilings. The home is spacious but with a Spartan colonial décor. Our room had a king sized four poster bed. In deference to the 21st century, it also had a fully modern bath and an HD TV. Terry cloth robes, lots of bath towels, and a welcoming bottle of wine also were provided.

In the morning, Marco, an experienced chief and restaurateur, prepared a spectacular breakfast. He offered a choice of five prepared to order dishes along with fresh fruit, cinnamon rolls, a selection of cheeses and the biggest cup of coffee imaginable. This was among the very best breakfasts that I have ever had in a B&B. The breakfasts alone are reason enough to stay there.

Marco and Sheryl proved to be friendly and interesting hosts. I only wish we had more time to spend with them and explore their beautiful home. I am trying to think of reasons to go back just to try more of those amazing breakfast dishes.

I recommend the Lathrop Manor to anyone visiting eastern Connecticut and would like an interesting, relaxing alternative to the casinos or shoreline hotels.

Sheryl and Marco made us welcome from the moment we stepped out of our car. Zoe and Jack were there to greet us too.

The B&B was easy to find - actually hard to miss, yet tucked into a sweet side of Norwich, CT. surrounded by other fine examples of early colonial dwellings that all seem to be in as wonderful a condition as Lathrop. The dwelling is a painstaking restored and maintained. A perfect example of gracious colonial life w/o the drafty windows, sooty fireplace and has all the modern conveniences - great water pressure, immaculately clean and HD TV . Not to mention the two best nights sleep I have had in a long time. Like sleeping on a cloud.

Sheryl and Marco are quite knowledgeable of the area as well as charming and entertaining as the innkeepers of this lovey home. They provide a cozy and pleasant atmosphere for any traveler with a modern media room, quaint library or quiet wooded area all on the same site. There are way too many small but important touches to list here that make this place special No detail is overlooked. (Chef) Marco does not disappoint with his many talents on show here throughout the house and more importantly in the kitchen. You will not leave hungry with the delicious breakfast choices they provide. The worst part of our stay....was having to leave. We will be back and soon!

Room Tip: Call ahead and book early. There are only two rooms

The innkeepers, Sheryl and Marco are great people. We enjoyed learning about them and their home. Marco is a terrific chef. His breakfast was fabulous and Sheryl was the most gracious host. Their home is inviting and beautiful. We felt very much at home and welcomed from the moment we stepped out of our car. We look forward to returning in the summer and relaxing in their outdoor space.

When we drove up to The Lathrop Manor B&B we were taken by the charm and beauty of this wonderful venue, with it's beautiful fields and stone patio. We were greeted by Marco and Cheryl, the cordial and accommodating Innkeepers., who gave us a tour of this amazing house with it's 16 inch wide chestnut plank floors, post and beam construction and beautiful furnishings.

Our room, the Plank Room, was lovely; the bed like a nest; the pillows like clouds; bathrobes hanging in the closet; the bathroom updated and the shower had high water pressure and plenty of hot water.

Sitting out on the porch was really delightful and we were offered an apertif or a refreshing beverage. A small bottle of wine was in our room with 2 wine glasses. A lovely welcome.

It was very quiet in our room, even so there was a white noise machine included as part of the alarm clock/radio. The room had a flat screen TV and I believe there is WiFi as I saw Sheryl working on her laptop out on the patio.

We spent a wonderful quiet night sleep and the next morning we have a sumptuous breakfast with home made flying saucer sized cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, cheeses, toast and we each chose a breakfast which resulted in a huge amount of food on the table including 2 kinds of granola, eggs, hash browns, and bacon.

Marco and Sheryl were warm and easy to talk to and we couldn't have had better hosts.

In short this is a wonderful place to stay with delightful hosts and we recommend it without reservation.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We are proud to offer Lathrop Manor now as a Bed & Breakfast. The private residence since 1744 is a beautiful example of a center hall Colonial with seven fireplaces. Samuel Lathrop built the house in the early 18th century but it was met with a fire. The house was rebuilt and enjoyed by Dr Daniel Lathrop, a successful pharmacist who is credited with employing the young Benedict Arnold. The house, nestled in the center of the Norwich Historic District has a rich history and beautiful craftsmanship from the hand carved wooden beams to the wide board flooring throughout. It is inspiring to imagine the lives of those who have walked these halls before. ... more   less
