“A great old Fashioned Dining Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

Family owned and operated business. Very quaint restaurant, the owners were right there and service was very quick and the food was fantastic. The owners came to the table checking on everything. The salad was fantastic! For a main course, I had the Linguine and clams (Linguine was home made) and it was delicious and was served very hot. the cheese and bread they served was very good as well. Would highly recommend for couples or adults to go and share an old fashioned Italian meal. Not really an atmosphere for small children.

“Old School, Upscale Italian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

We kept waiting for something to go wrong at Mikes, but nothing did,
Don't expect any trendy innovations here, they honestly don't need any.
Really a 4 1/2 star experience, but 4 is just not enough... this IS very good place!
The warm & fuzzy staff wasn't so warm & fuzzy during our visit, (very quiet humid tuesday nite)
but perfectly pleasant, (& we weren't feeling specially warm or fuzzy ourselves)
Had a Puttanesca style Seafood dish, homemade linguini (in an Olives, Caper, dark pomodoro sauce & large perfectly cooked Shrimp,
a fairly simple dish I guess, but we had to admit it was perfectly done,
And that's worth something! (in this case $27-) so you should be aware that a $90 +
price tag for a dinner for two is likely. But for a blowout old school Italian occasion, your going to eat (and be treated) very well here. and be quite happy too. (our other dish, some fat, home rolled tortelloni in a homemade red sauce, had loads of ricotta but lacked the herbs or the kick we thought it deserved, still an very good pasta. & our side of sautéed broccolirabe was full of giant half cloves of sweet pan roasted half garlic cloves ... (nice)
With an owner chef, (w/ son running front of house this evening,) and the mom's homemade Tiramisu, which (no joke) would have been right at home at Lutece' !!
(This is a hands on place and no question the owners care a great deal about everything... know just what they are about, don't overreach, and will gladly do what they can to make things right for you. The ambiance is good, nothing over the top, straightforward, and in a nondescript part of town. But again, this IS Norwalk Conn., not Monterey, and let's face it,
it would be real difficult to find this genera of excellent old school, New York italian food in Carmel, (or anywhere in California,) come to think of it, its getting harder and harder to find it in New York itself these days l! )

NB.
A few unique and welcoming touches too... the evening we were there, early in the week
all customers were brought a lovely salad of baby arugula with a drizzle of reduced balsamic
as a comp. appetizer,
This all conspires to make it very difficult not to like this place very much,
or to find serious fault with their simple, but still thriving, 45 year old family business plan:
I'm guessing its something along the lines of : "Hard work, Stick to the basics, & Do it right.

“Great food, great atmosphere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

We love Mikes, and love the hospitality the staff provides. It's more like you are eating in a nice Italian family home that a restaurant. The food is excellent, Nino has a great wine selection and the deserts are amazing! I highly recommend it but make sure you call for a reservation!

“great little find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I am from Norwalk. This is a small, family run, moderately upscale Italian place. I have always enjoyed eating there.
