“Charming B and B in an Old Farmhouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

First visit to Mystic and what a wonderful place to stay. The old farmhouse has been lovingly restored and maintained. We were able to relax and enjoy the grounds, which we would highly recommend. There is a fine assortment of attractions and restaurants within a 15 minute drive. The breakfasts were homemade and delicious!

This country B&B was a wonderful place to get away but still be close to some of Connecticut's tourist attractions. Located about a 10-minute drive from Mystic on curvy country roads, the owners have created a seamless blend of 18th century charm and modern convenience. Enjoy free wi-fi and air conditioning but have breakfast in an authentic 18th century dining room with open hearth and candlelight and antique furnishings. My room was a wonderful refuge, up a flight of creaky sloping stairs with a quilt on the bed and Shaker pegs to hang my clothes. The queen-size bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spotlessly clean and the breakfasts were amazing, something delicious and different every day. In addition to the splendid house, the back porch and sloping lawns and gardens surrounding the house add to the idyllic, country feel. There's a hammock out back and a tire swing in the shape of a hobby horse for children. The owners also add wonderful touches like the Vivaldi CD I could use as my alarm clock or the cookies available every afternoon or the little electric candles in the bedroom windows to guide you home at night. I checked out about a week ago but am already trying to come up with a reason to return!

This was our fifth visit with John and Mary. 10 minutes from Route 95, you could be a thousand miles away in the country while still being very close to wineries, casinos, entertainment and historic Connecticut. We came to see the Charles Morgan re-launched from Mystic Seaport. Check that review also.

This is a true Yankee farmhouse. Nothing is straight. The floors roll along. The doors are trapezoidal. Go in the winter for candlelight and fireplaces. We were there last year for Snowzilla.

Mary has a wonderful breakfast spread and will customize the meal to your preferences.

Explore the grounds. Bring a book and just relax.

We could get used to this life.

Room Tip: We like the rooms in the old house. They are a little larger, but all four rooms are delightful.

We had a wonderful stay at Inn at Lower Farm. Our room was clean and cozy; the hosts are fun and friendly; and the breakfasts absolutely delicious. The crab meat omelets were amazing. The inn is close to Mystic, the casinos, and many wineries. It was a perfect location for our long weekend trip to southern CT.

There aren't too many places we've been that I would recommend without adding some type of caveat. The Inn at Lower Farm is one of them. The farm house was originally built in the mid 1700's and has been meticulously restored to maintain the integrity of that era. You won't be disappointed if you enjoy seeing a bit of what life was like a couple of centuries ago. Mary and John, the Inn keepers, couldn't have been nicer. Friendly and informative without being too in-your-face. They were there when you needed them and weren't when you didn't. The beds were very comfortable and each of the four rooms have private baths. Coffee was ready at 8 am and breakfast was served at 9 am. My wife and I thought the coffee was very good, but it wasn't strong enough for my brother-in-law. Few coffees are. Breakfast started off with rhubarb muffins and freshly cut fruit. Next was a plate with broccoli soufflé, breakfast potatoes with rosemary and sauteed onions, and a couple of perfectly cooked bacon strips. Everything was delicious. I'm not sure if Mary would make you a couple of eggs if you didn't like the soufflé, but I'd be surprised if she wouldn't. Orange juice was also included.

We were in town for a wedding and originally we were going to book a couple of rooms at Foxwoods. When we saw a $400 price tag for one night we decided to try the Inn. Less than half the money, a wonderful breakfast and no temptation to drop a few bucks at the casino. Win, win, win!

An added bonus for nature lovers is a beaver pond at the back of the property.

We stayed here after a concert at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. Its realitively hidden just a stone's throw away from there and also close to Mystic and many other sights. Great old farmhouse with lots of character. The hosts are really hospitable and we enjoyed our breakfast very much. Prices were reasonable. Recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room above the dining room. Might be a little noisy if you dont want to get up ear...

What's great about this INN /BB is the location to so many local events. The inn keepers are very warm as is the fireplace at breakfast. This old farm house has a lot of charm and worth the tour around. Check out every nook. Being winter the gardens were not in bloom so we plan a visit in late spring to view the hundreds of bulbs planted thru-out the ground. All in all a very warm and friendly place to stay.
