I've been here 4 times...some have been better than others, but overall I find this restaurant too inconsistent in overall experience and food.
The Arugula Salad (three times) was very good, and appitizer Eggplant Rolitini also good. But yesterday had the absolute worst dish I've had out in a long time in their Fettucini with Porcini...it was one big, bad tasting bowl of mush. The pasta was mushy, the mushrooms (maybe overcooked) were also so mushy you could barely differetiate them from the rest of the sauce. I could barely detect pieces of pancetta (like it was all put in a Vitamix and pulverized into a bad tasting mush of a sauce) and the peas?....there were about 6 of them. This dish was a disgrace and not nearly worth the $18.00 price tag. I left half behind and should have really asked for another dish. My mom had Shrimp Florentine which she liked (not loved), and I tasted...was just ok; I've had better. Again, pasta and sauce all mushed together...overcooked. But it wasn't just a case of no "al dente"...overall these sauces were sub-par. The salad you get with the meal is a "why bother"...just some plain curly greens(that's it) with an overly salty, creamy dressing, heavily plopped on top.
Also, the wait for food was lonnnnng....about 40 minutes...and the table next to us....that they put extra chairs on for a noisy family of 6 who then were practically on top of us...they were seated about 15 minutes after us but were served before us. Our waiter, who's name I don't know...has waited on us every time we've been there, is always good, and should find himself a better restaurant to work at...he is always polite, professional, personable and performs his job well.
I think I'm done there, unless I just want salad and apps. Many MANY better Italian restaurants out there (Cafe Allegre, Madison CT. the BEST, or Bellini's right up the road from Ludal's.)
If I understand correctly from other reviews of Ludal's, these are the same owners or family as Dalton's?...if so...I have been there years ago and it was very good.
