“so comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

The surroundings were beautiful. and the inn had the charm of a b&b with all the luxurious comfort of a good hotel. The large brick patio could have been in Italy, The innkeeper was helpful and friendly - highly recommended.

Thanks very nice stay. I was there for a short stay to go to a wedding nearby in Norfolk. The house was clean and the owners were very nice people. The room was a little small but overall it was very nice.

We stayed in the guest house. I booked based on the great reviews I read, and the stay was very disappointing. For $400/night, I thought there would have been at least a back up roll of toilet tissue, a fly swatter for all the flies (my husband was up half the night killing dozens of flies -- literally. He had to drive 8 miles each way to the supermarket), a little bottle of shampoo, etc. I know we were in the country in the middle of nowhere, but the place was VERY MUSTY, and there was no way to open the doors for cross-ventilation. (no screens.) I was expecting nice sheets, maybe a chocolate by the side of the bed, maybe a newspaper....

The point is that there was NO attention to detail. There wasn't a tea bag or a bottle of anything in the fridge. There were white stains on the sofa cushions, a 2010 Better Homes magazine for reading material. You get the idea. An OK stay for half the price, but don't stay if you're looking for any pampering or luxury or a special getaway.

The Inn itself seemed fine. The breakfast was fine, Dean was nice enough, but not worth $400 a night.

Room Tip: The owner lives on the 3rd floor with a small dog.

We have been pleased over the years to receive so many kind remarks from past guests regarding their stays with us. We strive to provide each Mountain View guest with a positive experience, and we are deeply gratified that so many guests return, often bringing their friends with them.

Over the course of 8+ years we have not felt the need to rebut any guest’s remarks, but these comments are so egregious, so unfair and hurtful, we are compelled to respond.

Our Guest House is located on the side of our mountain overlooking a natural field below. Many guests choose to stay there because it provides such a natural, bucolic location for their respite. The Guest House has 2 bedrooms, full kitchen, bath with Jacuzzi tub/shower, washer and dryer, living room with vaulted ceiling, wood burning fireplace and cable TV. It is essentially set up for long-term rental, and for that reason is not cluttered with reading material, which is usually brought by guests. Guests who've stayed there prior to and after this guest did not find anything wrong, but rather said they loved the experience.

Had this guest only asked us, we could have told her that here are numerous rolls of toilet paper and plentiful toiletries stored in the bathroom vanity. Our pest control professional examined the space after she departed and said there are no flies anywhere in the Guest House, but he did say it was possible that night moths entered when she opened the door in the evening. There is ample circulation, a large ceiling fan and air conditioners in the two bedrooms, that work well.

This guest was not charged the customary $35 extra for a third person (her son), and she was afforded a very late check-out. We also made a special plate from our breakfast buffet that she could take out to the Guest for her husband. By the way, her original stated purpose for staying in the GH was so her husband could get his rest from his demanding work. We find it somewhat curious that when they departed he thanked us for his nice stay and the great sleep he enjoyed.

Mountain View Inn is the place we go to take a deep breath and relax. We enjoy sitting on the beautiful porches and walking the magnificent grounds surrounding the Inn. We found Dean and Jean Marie's Inn while following our passion for small intimate venues to hear music. We found Infinity Hall in Norfolk, Conn. and discovered the Mountain View Inn at the same time. Dean and Jean Marie provide a personal touch each time we visit. We have stayed several times at the Inn and can't wait to go again.

We're just home from a delightful weekend stay at the Mountain View Inn. We celebrated our anniversary there and were so pleased with the quiet beauty of the area and the immaculate conditions of the Inn. The Inn keepers, Dean and Jean Marie, made us feel very welcome, fed us a delicious breakfast and were quite an asset in helping us plan our time in Norfolk. It's obvious they take pride in their business. Whether you are looking for a romantic get away or a convenient location in Litchfield County, we highly recommend a stay at this property.

Room Tip: Jennie's Room has a sleeping porch that affords both a great view and gentle breezes. Mrs. Mead...

We stayed at the Mountain View Inn on our tandem tricycle tour from Ithaca, NY to Point Judith, Ri - and the ferry to Block Island. Our stay was comfortable, the nearby restaurants excellent, and breakfast was outstanding.

Anything I didn't rate was simply because we didn't try it. Great place to stay.
