5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

While on a business trip in Mystic we stumbled upon Ford's, It was a great experience, The people were very friendly, the service was great! I had the "Bisque Bomb" lobster cooked in butter served in a bread bowl covered in lobster bisque. Truly amazing, Several people in our group went back a second night. Make sure you stop at the package store its BYOB and Cash only. I will definitely be going back to Ford's!!

“Couldn't Ask for a Better Lobster Roll”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

... or place to eat it. As other reviewers have already said, it's a very plain, out-in-the-air experience to eat there, but the lobster rolls (we had the hot ones) are the best. The view of the river is not too shabby, either. Though for most of the time we were there only one person was on duty waiting tables, but she was hard-working and fast. I have to tip my hat to them for allowing us to use the restrooms earlier in the day when we stopped by in our kayaks.

“Fords Lobsters gets better and better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

We've been buying live Fords Lobsters for decades...old man Ford with his gnarled hands would scoop them out of the live tanks and we'd bring them home, steam them up and relish the great fresh taste! How delighted we were to visit Ford's last week and find outside dining. We brought our own drinks..ate one night under the umbrellas and 2 nights later at Irene's bar. Fantastic Lobster both times...atmosphere better than Abbott's or Costello's....friendly service (although past Labor Day just one waitress). A first rate experience. Don't miss this one....it is worth it!

“The best lobster experience on the Shore.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

Ford's is the epitome of an lobster shack colliding with a shore side eatery. The location is perfect: you dine either at solid plastic tables on the slip side or at a 'bar' along the dockside. And Ford's goes way back as a real lobster pound - it's not just a location eatery. it is a lobster shack at heart though, so you are eating outside under umbrellas - paper plates, etc.

Noank is a small, very picturesque enclave of Groton / Mystic, CT It is also home to a famous lobster place called Abbotts. Nothing wrong with Abbotts, but if you are 'in the know', then you know to come to Ford's

You are right by the water in an active part of the river, and as the deep-water channel is tight to the bank here, you get to see the large boats close up as they go up and down from Mystic town. If you are eating in the evening, bring a sweatshirt - the breeze can come in off the Sound even on a summer's day.

The people are great - it is waitress service to your table - friendly and helpful. It's a pretty limited menu which is how it should be - their keynote dish is a overstuffed lobster roll - $15 - not cheap but excellent value for money. This is served the real Connecticut way, in a top split hot-dog roll slathered in melted butter. Want more butter? No problem - just ask. They do a great clam chowder and a fantastic lobster bisque.

Lobsterphobes can get steak, or hotdogs. Last night's special was tuna.

It is a BYOB place - mostly wine drinkers. They were happy to provide ice if you need it, and they also sell soda and water. They are open 11:30 to dark - I guess as long as the season holds. And new this season are real porcelain toilets! No more porta-potty.

No reservations, and there are not a lot of tables, so you can wait a while. If you have to bale then Abbotts are a few blocks down river, so you can sate you lobster longing even if Ford's is too busy for you.

GPS tip:
Somewhat bizarrely Groton has TWO Riverview Avenues. Be sure to enter Riverview Ave, Noank, Groton. It seems that Google gets it right but Garmin and TomTom send you off towards the New London Sub-base if you are not careful. Weird!

“You've seen this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

This is strickly an outdoor, under the umbrella,on the dock,LOW KEY place. My #5 for food is for the Lobster rolls...hot or cold.Sorry..never ordered anything else there. The shack with the bouys has been a backdrop in a few movies..noticibly MYSTIC PIZZA. Go by boat or car..bring your own beer or wine. This is a working dock..can buy live lobster there.
