Ocean Beach is a great park. It has gone down hill since ten years ago though. I have been going here since I was a little boy. The beach use to have big valleyball tournaments like the Jose Cuervo Tournament. ESPN would be here doing" live coverage "
This alone was a boost to the park's advertising. Radio station Kiss 95.7 & 96.5 would broadcast live on the board walk and the outside lounge of the bar. I was at the beach atleast twenty times this summer alone. What bother's me the most is the maintenance and up keep of this place. There is none. The buildings need a face lift again this was done like fifteen years ago. It took the board walk replacement project three years to complete. Worker's never worked a full five days a week performing the work. Still today August 2008 the work is still on going by the minature golf course is. The mens shower room by the Big pool, the light fixture balast has been out since last year. I even went to the length of asking an attendant about the light not being "on" she went to ask another worker. The answer was the lite was broken. This is two years now and counting. I remember this being out last year becase we had to have someone hold the door open to get lite inside the shower facility. Yesterday I was at the park and the sink in the mens room by WOW was so loose you could actually lift the sink out of the counter. I reported this to an attendant. I'm sure there will be no progress to repair it. It looks as if the clip under the counter are missing. This is a simple repair job. The management appears to have a priority of making money and that is it. I undwerstand that talking with other beach goers that there is a Community trust group that over sees the park operation. I wish I knew who to talk to. I'm sure money is tight. But if you can't keep up with maintenance then the future will result in detorioration, which is very obvious. I hope they crack the wip and turn this "gem" of New London arround . This Park has great potential here. It is twenty minutes from the casinos, Mystic Aquirium & other costal beaches along the sound.
