We stayed two nights at this hotel. The lobby/structure of the hotel was a bit old, but upkeep was generally good. Service when checking in/out was efficient, but the employees were not friendly and never smiled. Parking was a bit of a problem. It was free, but there weren't enough spaces in the well-lit front of the hotel. Our WIFI connection in our 7th floor room was slow -- not good for the business traveller. The bed was comfortable and the room was large with updated furnishings and bed linens. Bottom Line: We would stay here again with the great Yale rate, but full price for a room here is not a good value.

Very nice hotel with above average breakfast for a "continental" in this class. We had a large room with a separate sleeping area and a pull-out sleeper sofa. While the whole hotel is non-smoking, our room appeared to have been previouisly a smoking room and there was a VERY feint resonance of smoke, but nothing of serious concern.

We just returned from a stay at the Fairfield Inn for Parents Weekend at Yale. On all of our past visits we stayed at the Omni since it is within walking distance of Yale but due to Parents Weekend it was booked. We were very happy with the Fairfield Inn - the room size was larger than the Omni and it seemed to be newly renovated. We had two queen beds plus a small couch that opened to a twin. The mattresses were fresh and very comfortable with lots of pillows. Housekeeping was very good - they were pleasant and worked around our schedule. Bathroom was clean and adequate. Overall, we were very pleased and felt we got good value for the price. It was not fancy but clean and pleasant. We will definitely stay here again.

The price included a nice morning buffet which included some options for carb watchers - cheese and hard boiled eggs - in addition to the usual muffins, yogurt, dry cereal, etc. They had a microwave to heat up egg sandwiches and a waffle iron that was popular. A nice touch was they kept the coffee out all day and one day there were even freshly baked chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon at the check-in.

The location has its pros and cons. It is right off of the highway so it is easy to find. It is next door to IKEA. My husband liked the fact is was a little bit out of the city. The con is that you have to drive to go anywhere and parking in New Haven is terrible. Many of the streets are one way, very congested, and hard to find meters or lots. One day we just took a cab to get back and forth to avoid the hassle of trying to park. It is located in sort of a light industrial area - there is a food terminal directly behind it. You have a view of the water but you have to look beyond the traffic on I-95 rushing by. But it looked like there is a nice path to walk on beyond the expressway - you would have to drive to get there and we didn't have time check it out. It is next to the Long Wharf Theater and there is a Greek diner attached and an Italian Restaurant next door, plus a Mobil with a convenient store.

Wanted to stay at the OMNI so we could walk to Yale (debate tournament for my son) but it was booked, so we tried the Marriott Fairfield. The staff is a real asset, all friendly, will go out of their way to help. Right next to a busy freeway, but soundproofing is good. With AC on I couldnt hear much from the outside. High quality towels were a nice surprise. Hotel room was fine, nothing special but clean and great AC, I like it cold. Breakfast buffet (free) is a cut above normal, including made on the spot waffles, and all the usual stuff, like donuts, bagels, cereal, juice. I would definitely stay here again. The mgmt sure has hired a great staff, they are just plain NICE.

Not much to look at from the outside, but it's very convenient to get to, right off the highway, and once inside all is fine.

Not much in the way of views unless you are on a high floor overlooking Long Island Sound.

Room was spacious and clean. I arrived early and the room wasn't ready, they don't guarantee arrivals before 3:00.

The continental breakfast had lots of choices, from bagels and toast to cereal and homemade waffles you make yourself. They even had Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches you could microwave.

Small but ok workout room with two tv's and a small pool in back that nobody seemed to be using. Ice and drink machines are not located on every floor so you have to ride the elevator to get what you want.

The folks were friendly, there's free wireless Internet and a computer hooked up to the Internet in the lobby for public use.

Didn't try the restaurant attached but got takeout pizza from the Italian restaurant in the same parking lot. Not Wooster Street but it was fine.

Overall a good choice if you're checking out the sights. I was here for Pilot Pen tennis which is only about 3 miles from the hotel, an easy drive.
