“Don't stay here!!”

La Quinta Inn & Suites New Haven

Oct 3, 2008

Definitely the worst place we have stayed in a very long time. Hotel employees, except for one, were rude and did not care at all about the customer. Bath room very dirty and bathtub would not drain. We reported the problem 3 times during a 2-day stay but it never got fixed. Promised transportation to and from Amtrak station not actually available unless you are willing to wait an hour.

Bottom line, a tent is almost more appealing than LaQuinta. If we had not pre-paid 2 nights, we would have turned around and left.

I had stayed at La Quinta before, when it was the Fairfield Inn. Given the limited selection of hotels in New Haven, it is a good, practical choice if you plan to just drop off your child at Yale or some other nearby university. In this visit, I stayed for three nights. The rate, much cheaper than any alternative in the area, included continental breakfast, free WIFI, and a shuttle to Yale and back to the hotel, which saved quite a bit on cab fare. I personally think it is a great value for the price.

The room was clean, the staff was friendly, and it has a gym. I have stayed at the Marriott Courtyard on Whalley and you get about the same value (no breakfast), but pay three times the price for the privilege of being walking distance to Yale.

Though it is near the highway, the area is safe during the day and I have actually walked to the Yale campus. At night, it is highly recommended you take the hotel shuttle or call a taxi.

I plan to stay here again for Yale graduation. Again, not the Omni, but quite adequate if you are just passing through.

Hallways had an overwhelming smell of air freshener or scented cleaning products. I-95 is right in front of the hotel & road noise is a problem. Rates were a good bit less than the other Yale area hotels, but it is also further from campus.

“Not really nice”

I stayed at the LaQuinta for three nights on business. It is located next to Interstate 95. The area is not really all that secure, as in I wouldn't go running without a group. I consider convenience to mean you can walk somewhere, the LaQuinta is not convenient to much, especially at night. The place is dumpy and dirty. The completed renovations are cheesy and sloppy (grout all over the bathroom wall). My bathroom reeked of mold, especially when the party next door showered. The walls are very thin, so I-95 was in my bedroom and I could hear the party next door unzip his/her suitcase. That being said, the breakfast layout was ok and the hotel did not have any loud parties going on. I would not pick this hotel. In this case it was chosen for me as lodging for training at UNH. If you have a car, there are nice restaurants and shopping a few exits away, but beyond that you can keep the place. The staff was friendly and accomodating-responded to requests and fixed problems but the place itself seems really tired and old and cheap.

This hotel is in the process of transforming over from a Fairfield Inn to a La Quinta. It is a great location if you will be driving all over South Central Connecticut- 5 mins drive to downtown New Haven, easy access to I-95, I-91, Rt. 34, free parking- easy to get in and out. Rooms are old and hallways, elevator, etc are scuffed up and well worn. Cleaning agents used in areas of hotel were very strong and smelled up hallways. My "non-smoking" room reeked of smoke. Complaints went on deaf ears [unable to get room elsewhere]. Bed linens badly stained- deaf ears again. Most frustrating was the terrible attitude of the staff- always talking down to the guests and with a bad attitude. Also, every time I needed something at the front desk I was made to wait while the front desk guy/girl answered phone call after phone call- even making reservations! Customer service is non-existent. I will say the free breakfast was an excellent spread and the free internet use on the lobby computer was a plus. Hopefully, La Quinta can get this hotel shaped up!
