“Hotel needs some help”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

Not sure what was remodeled the only thing I noticed that seemed new were the televisions. They all defaulted to as loud as they could go when you turned them on. Floors/carpets were dirty. There were no towels on one of the rooms. Lighting fixture covers in hallways broken or missing. Water stains on walls. One of the tubs had an interesting stains. Heater/air conditioners didn't work in all rooms. Missing iron in one. The one elevator door did not always close the first time. The only thing that kept this review from being a terrible instead of a poor was Wallace Frasier the front office manager. Before we got there I needed to make arrangements for some items to be delivered to the hotel. He was wonderful helping me out with that.

Un-vacuumed rug, black/peeling grout in bathtub (switched room immediately)
Upgraded to suit.
Sticky artificial wood flooring, disgustingly stained dirty sofa, and chair in the room. Ceiling peeled and stained along with the drapes from water leak. Tub extremely slow to drain, grout not white. Room had black marks on the dividing partition between the bed and the sofa. In room coffee pot didn't work (obviously missing the receptacle to put the coffee in). By 7:15 AM there was no coffee available in the lobby.
Upon checkout the clerk/mgr at the desk was unfriendly, no good morning, no how was your stay, no thank you, simply what was your room, and handed me a receipt.

Coffee maker in lobby was broke. Elevators doors are scary. People were pleasant enough so I didn't totally trash this place. Lighting fixture were broken. There was a person using the complimentary computer to play a video game most of the evening. Should have paid $39 not $99.

I'm glad we ignored some of the bad reviews. New Haven accommodation is pricey in general, and this was one of the few reasonably priced options. In spite of what we read, the lobby was clean, the receptionist was extremely helpful, pleasant, and professional, and the double room was large, clean, and odor-free! The hotel is conveniently located just off the highway and next to a mall and an Ikea. Definitely worth the price and a return if we were ever passing through this area again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a refrigerator. The front desk staff was happy to accommodate this request and I...

I've stayed in this hotel each time I've been to New Haven. It's nice, has a good Greek restaurant connected to it and the breakfast s fine. Wifi is a bit slow but works. And it's next door to an Ikea.

Greeted with a strong smell of melting plastic and a request we return in an hour because check in was not until 3pm. To kill time we went to the attached restaurant Greek olive to have lunch I would not recommend this confused eatery to anyone. After our substandard lunch we returned to the lobby to check in and stood at the front desk just to be ignored while the clerk and another staff member finish their personal conversation all the while the clerk glancing up looking at us and then continuing the conversation without any acknowledgement of our existence. After a few minutes we were finely given our room keys and started up to the room. As soon as we stepped off the elevator I was smacked in the face with a strong smell of marijuana we made our way to the room and thank god it didn’t smell the same but it was filthy to no end unidentifiable fluid spots on the desk, mold in the bathroom, a dusty air vent that looked like it was not cleaned in years. So as we processed the situation we went outside to have a cigarette and were stopped by a shady pan handler after going through the motions with him we watched as he was casing cars in the parking lot. Needless to say at this point we decided to pack up and leave. I do have to say when I was checking out I was offered an upgrade and a discount by the manager but this was not going to make it better.

I have stayed in better motels.

Room Tip: Don't bring your Family.

I have no complaints about the room. It is what you would expect for the price. However, this is a fairly large 8 story hotel. The parking lot was full every night. In spite of this, there was never more than 1 person working the front. At night there was only one person working, period. It took forever to check in. Several people came to the desk asking for simple things like linens for the hideaway bed. The front desk clerk would have to do this. During breakfast one day, the phone was ringing off the hook. There was nobody there to answer it. Eventually one of the breakfast customers got so sick of hearing the phone ring, he went over and answered it.
